# Wormhole community: W holders verified by wallet > What the W token is, where the Wormhole community talks, and how to join or build a Cherry room gated by a real W balance on Solana. W is the native token of Wormhole, the cross-chain messaging protocol that moves tokens and data between blockchains, and on Solana it is an SPL token at mint `85VBFQZC9TZkfaptBWjvUw7YbZjy52A6mjtPGjstQAmQ`. The Wormhole community is spread over Discord, Telegram and X, so a member list says nothing about who holds W. Cherry (cherry.fun) is a wallet-to-wallet messenger and community app for crypto: you sign in with a wallet, DM any address, and join group chats that read the chain themselves. Cherry runs a W holders room at [chat.cherry.fun/@wormhole](https://chat.cherry.fun/@wormhole), gated by a W balance. Cherry is not affiliated with the W team. ## What W is Wormhole carries messages between blockchains: an app on one chain emits a message, Wormhole's network attests to it, and a contract on another chain acts on it. Token issuers use its Native Token Transfers framework to run one token across many chains without wrapping it. W trades on Solana and as the same ERC-20 on Ethereum, Base and Arbitrum. As of 12 September 2026: - Chain and standard: Solana, SPL token, six decimals. - Mint: `85VBFQZC9TZkfaptBWjvUw7YbZjy52A6mjtPGjstQAmQ`, with mint and freeze authorities disabled, so no new supply can appear there and no balance can be frozen. - The same token elsewhere: an ERC-20 at `0xb0ffa8000886e57f86dd5264b9582b2ad87b2b91` on Ethereum, Base and Arbitrum, with 18 decimals. One ticker, several addresses; a Solana rule reads the mint above. - Launch: W has traded on Solana since 2 April 2024, the date of its first liquidity pool. - Supply: 6,454,813,239 W in circulation against a 10,000,000,000 maximum. - Market cap: about $64 million. - Holders: 97,235 wallets hold the Solana mint. - Behind the token: Wormhole's site counts 45+ connected blockchains and $68 billion of all-time transfer volume enabled. Wormhole said on 4 June 2026 that Ripple's RLUSD had gone multichain through Native Token Transfers, and published network support changes on 7 August 2026 that deprecate several chains and hand some Cosmos frontends to the community. ## Where the Wormhole community talks today Wormhole's public channels, as of September 2026, are the site at [wormhole.com](https://wormhole.com/) with its [documentation](https://wormhole.com/docs/), a Discord at [discord.gg/PYzevkdt](https://discord.gg/PYzevkdt) and a Telegram channel at [t.me/wormhole_eco](https://t.me/wormhole_eco). Announcements arrive there. None of them can tell a holder from a tourist. That Telegram channel broadcasts to 575 subscribers as of 12 September 2026 and takes no replies, so holder chat happens in third-party groups that admit anyone with a phone number. A balance can sit on Solana or on any of the EVM deployments, and a pasted screenshot proves nothing. Discord's usual fix is a verify bot: leave the server, sign a message on a third-party site, come back with a role. That loop is also the shape of the phishing attack it is meant to prevent. ## W holders on Cherry Cherry's W room is a public group whose membership is a balance check. Sign in with the wallet that holds your W on Solana, press join, and Cherry reads that wallet's balance of the mint above. Access ends when the wallet stops passing: sell below the minimum and a background re-check takes the room away. It is public, titled "W Holders", gated by "Hold at least 1 $W", and on 12 September 2026 it had one member and no reviews. Cherry created and runs it, and it is a holders room, not a Wormhole channel. Four things work there that a Telegram group cannot do: - Every member passed a [token gated chat](https://cherry.fun/learn/features/token-gated-chat/) balance rule against the W mint, and keeps passing it in the background. - You can [DM a wallet address](https://cherry.fun/learn/features/dm-a-wallet-address/) you met in the room. Direct messages are end-to-end encrypted with keys derived from your wallet signature; the group chat is not, by design, so moderation and bots can work. - Size trades settle through [OTC escrow](https://cherry.fun/learn/features/otc-escrow/) in the Cherry mobile app: both sides fund an on-chain escrow, it settles atomically, and a timed-out deal refunds both senders. - A team can point [airdrops and quest-style eligibility](https://cherry.fun/learn/features/airdrops-and-quests/) at a verified holder list. One room can cover W holders on Solana and on the EVM chains Cherry reads. A group takes up to five rules, so an owner can pair the Solana mint with the ERC-20 contract in a [multichain token-gated chat](https://cherry.fun/learn/features/multichain-token-gated-chat/) and set the logic to Any one: W on Solana passes, and so does W on Ethereum or Base. Open [chat.cherry.fun](https://chat.cherry.fun), connect a wallet, and sign the sign-in message. Nothing goes on-chain and there is no gas. 2. Press "Create group", name it, and keep "Visibility" on Public. 3. Open "Access requirements", switch on "Token requirement", and paste `85VBFQZC9TZkfaptBWjvUw7YbZjy52A6mjtPGjstQAmQ` into "Token mint address". 4. Set "Minimum amount" in W units: 1 for an open holders room, 100,000 for larger holders. Under "To join, members need", pick "All of these" or "Any one". 5. Save, then claim a handle in the group settings. The public page it gives you shows the requirement and is where holders land. ## Risks and disclaimers This page describes a token and a chat room, and endorses neither. A balance rule proves what a wallet held when it was read and nothing about the person behind it, so treat offers and links in any room with the suspicion you would use anywhere else. The rule reads that wallet's balance of mint 85VBFQZC9TZkfaptBWjvUw7YbZjy52A6mjtPGjstQAmQ when you join and again in the background. ### Does W held on Ethereum, Base or Arbitrum count for the gate? Not for a rule written against the Solana mint, which reads Solana balances only.
