# HNT community chat: holders verified by wallet > What HNT is, where the HNT community talks today, and how to join or build a Cherry room gated by a real Helium balance on Solana, with the verified mint. HNT is the token of Helium, a wireless network whose coverage is built by the people who own the radios, and on Solana it is an SPL token at mint `hntyVP6YFm1Hg25TN9WGLqM12b8TQmcknKrdu1oxWux`. Hotspot hosts, device builders and traders all end up holding it, and the HNT community is spread across Discord, Telegram and Reddit, where a member list tells you nothing about who holds what. Cherry (cherry.fun) is a wallet-to-wallet messenger and community app for crypto: you sign in with a wallet, DM any address, and join group chats that read the chain themselves. Cherry is not affiliated with the Helium team. ## What HNT is Helium powers two wireless networks: a global LoRaWAN network for IoT devices and a cellular offload Wi-Fi network for phones. Community-operated radios called Hotspots provide the coverage, and their owners are paid in HNT for it. Usage is paid for separately, in Data Credits: burning HNT mints these dollar-pegged credits, one credit is worth $0.00001, and the Helium Mobile network bills data at $0.10 per gigabyte. That burn ties the token to traffic on the network. Hotspot hosts are among those wallets: hosts are rewarded in HNT for deploying and maintaining network coverage. ## Where the HNT community talks today Helium's official channels, as of 12 September 2026, are the site [helium.com](https://www.helium.com/), the docs at [docs.helium.com](https://docs.helium.com/), a Discord reachable at [chat.helium.com](https://chat.helium.com/), a Telegram channel at [t.me/helium_network](https://t.me/helium_network) and the account @helium on X. Holders also gather in the community subreddit [r/HeliumNetwork](https://www.reddit.com/r/HeliumNetwork). They carry announcements, governance debate and deployment help, and none of them can tell whether the person typing holds any HNT. For this community the gap has a specific cost. Hotspot owners trade used hardware, relocate units and sell earnings to each other, and a deal like that starts as a DM from a stranger whose holdings nobody can check; a fake "Helium support" account answering a public question about a dead Hotspot is equally unverifiable. Discord's usual fix is a verify bot that sends you to a third-party site to sign a message, then asks you to sign again. ## HNT holders on Cherry Cherry's HNT room is a public group whose membership is a balance check. Sign in with the wallet holding your HNT, press join, and Cherry reads your balance of that mint. Sell below the minimum and a background re-check ends your access; it can take up to a few days to catch up. Four things work differently from a Telegram group: - Every member passed a [token-gated chat](https://cherry.fun/learn/features/token-gated-chat/) balance rule against mint `hntyVP6YFm1Hg25TN9WGLqM12b8TQmcknKrdu1oxWux`, and keeps passing it in the background. - You can [DM a wallet address](https://cherry.fun/learn/features/dm-a-wallet-address/) you met in the room. Direct messages are end-to-end encrypted with keys derived from your wallet signature; the group chat itself is not encrypted, by design, so moderation and bots can work. - Size deals settle through [OTC escrow](https://cherry.fun/learn/features/otc-escrow/) in the Cherry mobile app: both sides fund an on-chain escrow, it settles atomically, and a timed-out deal refunds both senders. - A team can run [airdrops and quest-style eligibility](https://cherry.fun/learn/features/airdrops-and-quests/) against a verified holder list, which is what [reaching token holders](https://cherry.fun/learn/guides/reach-token-holders/) looks like when the list comes from the chain. Open [chat.cherry.fun](https://chat.cherry.fun), connect a wallet, and sign the sign-in message. Nothing goes on-chain and there is no gas. 2. Press "Create group", name it, and keep "Group visibility" on Public. 3. Open "Access requirements", switch on "Token-gated", and paste `hntyVP6YFm1Hg25TN9WGLqM12b8TQmcknKrdu1oxWux` into "Token mint address". 4. Set "Minimum amount" in HNT units: 1 for an open holders room, higher for large operators only. A group takes up to five rules; under "To join, members need", pick "All of these" or "Any one". 5. Save, then claim a handle in the group settings.
