Search for the Drift Protocol Telegram and you get an invite hash with no username behind it, a thin answer for a crowd that watched about $285 million leave the protocol in roughly twelve minutes on 1 April 2026. Cherry (cherry.fun) is a wallet-to-wallet messenger and community app for crypto: you sign in with a wallet, DM any wallet address, and join group chats whose membership is read from the chain. What DRIFT is

Drift runs non-custodial perpetual futures and borrow-lend markets on Solana. DRIFT is the token that governs it, through the Drift Foundation at drift.foundation.

The token generation event was 16 May 2024. The launch airdrop opened that day at 12:00 UTC, putting 12% of supply in front of roughly 150,000 eligible wallets, claimable for three months. The mint is DriFtupJYLTosbwoN8koMbEYSx54aFAVLddWsbksjwg7, an SPL token with 6 decimals on the original SPL Token program. Mint and freeze authority are both disabled, so supply cannot grow and balances cannot be frozen.

Maximum supply is 1,000,000,000 DRIFT, and 999,998,370 existed on 13 September 2026. That day 715,234,160 were circulating, market cap was about $8.4 million against a fully diluted value near $11.7 million, and the mint sat in 27,862 holder wallets.

The Drift Protocol Telegram and the other official channels

Four links are Drift’s own, current on 13 September 2026: the site at drift.trade , the documentation at docs.drift.trade , the governance site at drift.foundation , and the Discord invite . The X account is @DriftProtocol. Expect a second name: Drift said in July 2026 that it was rebranding to Velocity, and on 13 September 2026 the app and documentation links on drift.trade redirected to velocity.exchange and docs.velocity.exchange, which publishes a Discord invite of its own.

Telegram is the gap. Drift’s home page lists none, and the invite carried for DRIFT in September 2026, t.me/+G4i0AZcHf6cxNDll, is a hash with no public username attached. There is no handle to compare, so a group titled Drift Trading Chat cannot be ruled out by its name. For this token the warning is concrete. On 1 April 2026 about $285 million in user assets left Drift in roughly twelve minutes. TRM Labs describes weeks of social engineering that got Security Council signers to pre-sign transactions carrying hidden authorizations for critical admin actions, after which a fake token was listed as valid collateral and used to withdraw real assets, and says its initial investigation suggests the hack was likely the work of North Korean hackers. On 16 April 2026 Tether announced a recovery plan of up to nearly $150 million, up to $127.5 million of it from Tether, with Drift moving its settlement asset from USDC to USDT at relaunch. DRIFT chats today mix traders with users still owed money, the audience impersonators work hardest on.

DRIFT holders on Cherry

Cherry opened a public DRIFT Holders room on 12 September 2026 at chat.cherry.fun/@drift . It is Cherry’s holders room, created and run by Cherry. Cherry is not affiliated with the DRIFT team, nothing posted in it speaks for the protocol or the Drift Foundation, and it is not a support desk for the recovery plan.

Entry is a token balance rule pointed at mint DriFtupJYLTosbwoN8koMbEYSx54aFAVLddWsbksjwg7 with a minimum of 1 DRIFT, which the storefront states as “Hold at least 1 $DRIFT”. Cherry reads that balance when you join and keeps reading it, so a wallet that sells below the minimum is paywalled: it stays a member, with message content withheld until a later check restores it. Nobody DMs you a verify link and there is no second site to connect. The room had 192 members on 13 September 2026.

Inside, holders can:

• DM any other holder wallet to wallet, with end-to-end encrypted DMs whose keys come from your wallet signature.
• Type $DRIFT in the composer to post a live token card and swap from the chat, through trading in chat .
• Settle a size deal through OTC escrow in the Cherry mobile app , where both legs fund an escrow and a timeout refunds them.
• Receive airdrops aimed at holders , since eligibility can be a DRIFT balance read against the same mint.

How to create a DRIFT-gated room

1. Open chat.cherry.fun and sign in with a Solana wallet. The wallet signs a message; nothing goes on-chain, no gas.
2. Create a public group and claim a handle.
3. Add a gating rule of type token balance, paste the mint DriFtupJYLTosbwoN8koMbEYSx54aFAVLddWsbksjwg7, and set the minimum in DRIFT, not in raw units.

Risks and disclaimers

DRIFT governs a protocol that lost about $285 million on 1 April 2026, and the recovery plan announced on 16 April 2026 ties user recovery to the exchange’s own revenue and trading activity; a chat room changes none of that exposure. A balance rule proves a wallet held at least 1 DRIFT when it was read, not that the person behind it is honest, so mods can mute and ban, and nobody in a holders room should sign a transaction a stranger sends. Group chats on Cherry are not end-to-end encrypted, by design, so moderation and bots can work; DMs are end-to-end encrypted with keys derived from your wallet.
