How to reclaim SOL from empty token accounts
Close empty Solana token accounts and get their rent deposit back: the deposit per account, a worked example, the steps in SOL Reclaim and what to sign.
How to reclaim SOL, in one line: close the empty token accounts in your wallet, and the deposit each one holds comes back to you. This guide does it with SOL Reclaim, a mini app that Cherry runs inside its chats. Cherry is a wallet-to-wallet messenger and community app for crypto: you sign in with a wallet, DM any wallet address, and join token-gated and paid group chats. Below are the deposit figures, the screens step by step, and what a genuine reclaim asks you to sign, which is how you tell it apart from fake “claim your SOL” sites.
Before you start
- A Solana wallet that holds the empty accounts: Phantom, Solflare, Backpack, or the Seed Vault Wallet on a Solana Seeker.
- A Cherry sign-in with that same wallet, on the web app at chat.cherry.fun or in the Cherry mobile app. A mini app works on the wallet Cherry hands it. In the Cherry web app, if you signed in with Google, Apple or X, the mini app uses your Cherry Wallet; its sign-up screen says “Mini apps and purchases use this one; any wallet you link later stays out of reach.”
- A little SOL for network fees. Your wallet pays the fee on each claim transaction.
How much SOL you can reclaim
Every token you hold on Solana sits in its own token account, and each one carries a deposit, called rent, while it exists. Solana’s documentation lists these minimum balances:
| Account | Size | Deposit it holds |
|---|---|---|
| Standard SPL token account, opened before 3 September 2026 | 165 bytes | 2,039,280 lamports (0.00203928 SOL) |
| Token-2022 account, opened before 3 September 2026 | 170 bytes or more | at least 2,074,080 lamports (0.00207408 SOL), more with extensions |
| Standard SPL token account, opened at step 1’s rate (from 3 September 2026) | 165 bytes | 1,855,569 lamports (0.001855569 SOL) at the first rent cut |
Chainstack’s documentation says the second cut went live on mainnet on 11 September 2026, so accounts opened since then hold less again. Closing an account returns whatever it holds.
Solana began lowering rent on 3 September 2026, when the first of five steps (SIMD-0437) went live on mainnet, according to solana.com. An account keeps the deposit it was opened with. How the deposit is set is in the Solana rent glossary entry .
Why empty accounts pile up
- Buying or receiving a token opens an account for it in your wallet.
- Selling to zero empties the account and leaves it open, deposit inside.
- Airdropped spam tokens open more. Those still hold the spam token, so they do not count as empty until it is gone.
The refund goes to the address the close instruction names, which, Solana’s docs note, is not automatically whoever paid for the account. SOL Reclaim names your wallet.
Worked example: 50 empty accounts
Take a wallet with 50 empty standard SPL token accounts, all opened before September 2026. 50 × 0.00203928 SOL = 0.101964 SOL in deposits. That is the total before the app’s fee. What lands in your wallet is the take-home figure SOL Reclaim shows before you sign, less the network fees.
Step 1: Open SOL Reclaim in Cherry
Go to chat.cherry.fun/@solreclaim , the app’s room, and open the mini app from it. The room’s description ends “This mini app is managed by Cherry”. In October 2026 it had 4,366 members, 12,222 messages and a 5-star rating from 6 reviews.
Inside Cherry the app connects to the wallet you signed in with. If it shows “Connect wallet” anyway, press it and approve the connection. You know it worked when the screen says “Scanning your wallet…”.
Step 2: Let it scan your wallet
The scan looks for token accounts with a zero balance, and ends in one of two ways.
- “Nothing to reclaim”, with the line “No junk, no locked SOL left behind.” Your wallet has no empty accounts.
- A card headed “Reclaimable SOL” with the number of empty accounts and a SOL figure. If it lists other items too, the heading counts items instead.
If the app lists other items as well, the empty accounts get their own row, marked “Zero balance · closed, not burned”, and their own button, “Empty accounts only”. This guide covers that claim, which destroys nothing.
Step 3: Check what it will close
When empty accounts are all it finds, “What gets closed?” opens the full list: each account’s shortened address and the SOL inside it, each linking to Solscan. Accounts that still hold a token, even a few units of dust, are not on it and stay as they are. You know it worked when the count on the card matches the length of the list.
Step 4: Read what you receive
When the card lists only empty accounts, its large figure is what you receive after the app’s fee. When it lists other items, the amount on the “Empty accounts only” button is. The list shows each account’s deposit, rounded. If you take “Review and reclaim” instead, the review screen shows “Rent recovered” and “You receive” before your wallet opens. There is no separate fee row there either: the gap between those two lines is the app’s fee, and it is taken from the reclaimed rent.
Note the take-home figure for Step 6.
Step 5: Claim and approve in your wallet
Press “Claim SOL”, or “Empty accounts only” when the card lists other items. The claim starts at once and your wallet opens. Approve the claim in your wallet. Depending on the wallet, that is one approval covering several transactions or one prompt per transaction.
What each transaction does:
- Close instructions for zero-balance token accounts, each paying its deposit to your own wallet.
- One SOL transfer of the app’s fee.
- The network fee, paid by your wallet like any other transaction, including a small priority fee (some wallets list this as compute-budget instructions).
A very large wallet is done in runs. Before you sign, the card says how many of your accounts this run closes and that the rest is offered again after; the success screen then shows the SOL still waiting and a “Start the next run” button.
You know it worked when the success screen says “Reclaimed” above the SOL figure.
Step 6: Check your balance
Your SOL balance rises by the take-home figure from Step 4, less the network fees. Open the wallet in an explorer such as Solscan: the closed accounts no longer appear among its token accounts. That is the whole Solana rent refund: your own deposit, back in your balance.
How to spot a fake reclaim site
Fake “claim your SOL back” pages are a known drainer lure. PCrisk described one in March 2026: the page asks visitors to connect a wallet to recover rent, and connecting lets a drainer move their crypto out. A genuine reclaim asks you to sign the items listed in Step 5. Reject the prompt if your wallet shows any of these:
- a token or NFT leaving your wallet;
- an approve or delegate instruction, which lets another address move your tokens later;
- a set-authority instruction, which hands control of an account to someone else;
- a SOL transfer larger than the gap between Rent recovered and You receive (or between the deposits and your take-home figure);
- a request for your seed phrase . No reclaim needs it.
The same test works on any reclaimer or burner tool. Use one you can trace to a known home: SOL Reclaim opens from its own room inside Cherry, with reviews you can read first. The general checks are in is it safe to connect your wallet and how to spot a fake airdrop .
Troubleshooting
- “Nothing to reclaim”, but you sold tokens. With a Google, Apple or X sign-in in the web app, the app scanned your Cherry Wallet; sign in with the trading wallet instead. Sold tokens that left dust behind are not empty either.
- A dust balance. An account holding any amount of a token cannot close as empty. Selling or sending the last units empties it for the next scan. Burning a token to free its deposit destroys it for good, whichever tool does it, so keep anything you might sell.
- The wallet warns about the transaction. Read the preview: closes paid to you, the fee transfer and a balance change close to the take-home figure match the claim. Reject anything else.
- An account comes back. An app or a sender can open a new token account for your wallet, with a new deposit, as Solana’s docs note. Once it is empty, the next scan finds it.
- You rejected a prompt. A big wallet’s claim is split across several transactions. If you reject the approval, nothing in that run is closed, and the accounts show up again on the next scan.

FAQ
How much SOL can I reclaim?
Each empty standard token account opened before 3 September 2026 holds 0.00203928 SOL, so 50 of them hold 0.101964 SOL before the app’s fee. Accounts opened since that date hold less, and Token-2022 accounts opened before it hold a little more. SOL Reclaim shows the figure you receive after its fee before your wallet opens.
Is reclaiming SOL safe?
Closing an empty token account is a standard Solana instruction, and the deposit goes to the address the instruction names. A genuine reclaim asks you to sign closes of zero-balance accounts paid to your own wallet, plus a transfer of the tool’s fee. Reject any prompt that moves tokens, approves a delegate, changes an account’s authority or asks for your seed phrase.
What does SOL Reclaim charge?
SOL Reclaim takes its fee from the reclaimed rent. Before you approve, the card shows what you receive after the fee (when it lists other items, the Empty accounts only button does), and if you take Review and reclaim, its review screen shows Rent recovered and You receive; the gap between those two lines is the fee, and there is no separate fee row. Your wallet also pays the normal network fee for each transaction.
Can I close token accounts in Phantom instead?
Phantom is one of the wallets you can sign in to Cherry with, so you can run SOL Reclaim on a Phantom wallet and approve the claim in it. For cleanup options inside Phantom itself, check Phantom’s help center. Its article on trading predictions warns that burning outcome tokens with token cleanup tools is permanent and that Phantom cannot recover them.
