Most NFT utility ideas on a roadmap need a team you do not have: a staking program, a game, a plot of land somewhere. This guide lists six that a three-person collection can ship after the mint, each with the mechanic that enforces it, using Cherry (cherry.fun), a wallet-to-wallet messenger and community app for crypto where a group chat reads the chain itself to decide who gets in. It is written for collections, token teams and DAOs that already minted and now owe holders something better than a Discord role.

The effort notes are honest: "an afternoon" means toggles in an app, "a week" means you also fund something and write the copy that goes with it.

## Before you start

- A wallet signed in at [chat.cherry.fun](https://chat.cherry.fun). Signing in is a message signature: nothing goes on-chain, no gas.
- Your collection's on-chain address, or its Magic Eden link in the form `magiceden.io/marketplace/<slug>`.

## Idea 1: A holder room with no verify bot

In a group's settings in the Cherry web app, the "Access Requirements" card carries a toggle called "NFT requirement", described as "Hold an NFT from a collection". Paste your collection address or Magic Eden link into the "Collection" field and the editor shows the collection name and image back to you. After that, every wallet that asks to join is checked against the chain.

What holders notice is the absence: no verify link in their DMs, no separate verification site, no role that silently falls out of sync. Before joining they see which requirements they already pass. ## Idea 2: Tiers without a new contract

A room can carry up to five rules, combined under "All of these" or "Any one"; the settings row that decides it reads "To join, members need". Two NFT rules under "Any one" make a shared lounge for your collection and a sister collection. One NFT rule plus a wallet balance rule under "All of these" makes a room only funded holders enter.

Trait tiers have a limit worth knowing before you promise them. A trait is gateable when it has its own collection address, or when the Core assets share an update authority the rule can match. Where the trait lives only in metadata, ship the tier as a separate room with its own address, or skip it.

## Idea 3: A paid channel for the top tier

A channel is a broadcast group: only you and your admins post. Add a payment rule and it becomes a paid feed. Pricing is a one-time entry fee in SOL, from 0.0001 to 100, or a recurring USDC membership from 1 to 10,000 USDC per period, billed daily, weekly or monthly. As of September 2026 the owner keeps 70% of what members pay and Cherry keeps 30%.

Three rules shape how it behaves. Membership activates only when the payment confirms on-chain. A paid group is always public, because it sells from its own page. And an invite does not skip the paywall: an invite from you or an admin is a lifetime guest pass, while an invite from an ordinary member lands the newcomer on the paywall. ## Idea 4: An airdrop only your holders can claim

Fund a treasury, then run a campaign that pays SOL or an SPL token. Eligibility can require holding an NFT from your collection, a minimum token balance, or a place on a whitelist, and the campaign either requires every check or accepts any one of them. Cap it at the first N claimants or leave it open for a time window; either way it is one claim per wallet.

The claim itself is quick: the winner is recorded before the wallet opens, then the holder signs and pays the network fee while Cherry co-signs the payout from your treasury. Run it inside the holder room and the campaign reaches people who have already proved they hold. ## Idea 5: An announcements channel holders keep

Use the "Create channel" entry in the web app, name it, and give it the same NFT rule as the holder room. Only you and your admins can post, so the feed stays a feed. You can pin up to 20 posts, which is enough for the mint details, the rules and the current claim link.

This is the cheapest item on the list and the one most collections skip. A holder who muted your server in March still gets a notification here, because membership follows the wallet.

## Idea 6: A storefront page that states what holders get

Every public group has a page of its own on chat.cherry.fun with a cover image, a description, community rules, up to six "What you get" lines, the member count, the message count, the requirements to join, a preview of current members, and reviews. Active members rate the group from 1 to 5 with a comment, and an owner cannot review their own group. Search engines index these pages, so the page doubles as the public answer to "is this collection's community real".

## What makes the utility real

Enforcement is the part roadmaps leave out. Cherry re-checks holdings in the background, so a wallet that sells is paywalled; it can take a few days to catch up. The member keeps their seat while the content is withheld, and a later passing check restores them without anyone opening a ticket.

Two exceptions matter when you write the promise. Members an admin invited are exempt from holdings checks, because an invite is a vouch, though a payment rule still applies to them. And a check that cannot be completed counts as a pass, so an outage never throws a holder out of the room.

## What not to promise

Revenue shares are the big one: a share of future income is a claim you cannot enforce from a chat, and it drags a collectible toward being a security. Floor support is a promise you cannot keep, because buyers set the floor. A guaranteed drop every month is a debt you will owe in month four.

Promise what the room enforces: access for as long as the wallet holds, a price you set and can change for new members, a claim window that closes on a date. Those are checkable, which is what a holder is asking for when they ask about utility.

## Troubleshooting

- The lookup says "Collection not found". You probably pasted a single NFT's mint address; the rule wants the collection address or the Magic Eden collection link.
- The rules are listed but nobody is being checked. A gated group that was flipped private keeps its rules saved, not applied, until it goes public again.
- A wallet that sold still reads the room. The background re-check has not reached that wallet yet. To settle it on save, switch on "Apply to existing members now" in the settings: members who do not meet the requirements are paywalled right away.
- Ethereum and Base holders join by ERC-721 ownership; the Magic Eden lookup and Core update-authority matching are Solana-only.
