# How to message a wallet address (and its owner)

> How to message a wallet address on Cherry: paste the address or a .sol name, send a free silent request, or pay 0.01 SOL to notify the owner.


Here is how to message a wallet address: paste the address, or a name such as `alice.sol`, into Cherry, write one message, and pick silent delivery or a push. Cherry (cherry.fun) is a wallet-to-wallet messenger and community app for crypto: you sign in with a wallet, DM any address, and join token-gated, NFT-gated and paid group chats, with no phone number, email or KYC.

## Before you start

- A Solana wallet you can sign with: Phantom, Solflare, Backpack, or the Seed Vault Wallet on a Seeker.
- The exact address you want to reach, or the name that owns it.
- A Cherry session. Sign-in is Sign In With Solana: the wallet signs a message, nothing goes on-chain, no gas.
- About 0.01 SOL if you want the recipient notified, the default fee as of 11 September 2026, plus the Solana network fee on that transfer.

## Step 1: Get the exact address or the name that owns it

Copy the address from the explorer or the transaction you are asking about, then check who it belongs to. A wallet's display name on Cherry comes from what it owns: a `.sol` name from SNS, a `.skr` name on a Seeker, or an AllDomains name such as `.bonk`. If you were handed both a name and an address, match them in Step 2: the wallet card Cherry shows before you write lists the wallet's domains.

You know this step worked when you have one exact string to paste: the full address, or a name you know belongs to it.

## Step 2: Open a new chat in the Cherry web app

Open [chat.cherry.fun](https://chat.cherry.fun), connect your wallet, and sign in.

1. Press New chat in the left rail.
2. Type into the box labelled "Wallet, domain or group name". A full address is searched as a wallet, anything with a dot as a domain, and an `@` prefix as a Cherry handle. A bare word with no dot gets an inline `.sol` hint.
3. Pick the wallet from the results, which arrive under "Users", with rooms under "Groups".

Cherry shows that wallet's card before you write: its Balance, Volume, NFTs and Domains. You know this step worked when the compose box appears, with the placeholder "Add a message (optional)..." and a 500-character cap.

## Step 3: Choose free delivery or a paid notification

A first message to a wallet you have never talked to is free and silent by design. Paying adds a push notification.

Press "Send for Free" and the message is delivered quietly. Press "Send & Notify · 0.01 SOL" and your wallet opens for a transfer to Cherry's treasury that you sign alone. Nothing is delivered on the press: Cherry holds the message and writes it to the conversation only after the transfer confirms on-chain, so abandoning the wallet prompt sends nothing and charges nothing. The button counts it out, from "Approve in your wallet…" to "Confirming on-chain…".

You know this step worked when the conversation opens with your message in it. Declining is silent too: a declined request moves to the recipient's Hidden sub-tab and the sender is told nothing.

## Step 4: Send the same message from the mobile app

The [iOS](https://apps.apple.com/app/cherry-fun-solana-messenger/id6749173799) and [Android](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=fun.cherry) apps run the same flow with their own labels. Tap the search field, "Search chats, groups, users", which offers "Find a group, or start a chat by wallet or domain", and paste the address. Matches arrive under "YOUR CHATS", "GROUPS" and "USERS". Tap the wallet, write in the "Write a message" box, then choose "Notify · 0.01 SOL" or "Send free"; the "How delivery works" sheet explains both first.

Use the mobile app when the conversation will end in a trade: [OTC escrow](https://cherry.fun/learn/features/otc-escrow/) lives there, so a deal agreed in the DM settles in a program inside the same chat.

## Step 5: Find other holders of a token to message

One address at a time is slow. If you want the holders of a token, a gated room is the shortcut: a list of wallets that provably hold something, each with a profile you can DM from.

Gating is checked on-chain by Cherry itself, so nobody sends you a verify link. A group can combine up to five rules and require all of them or any one: a minimum balance of a given mint or contract, an NFT from a collection, a `.sol`, `.skr` or AllDomains name, wallet balance and volume thresholds, and paid entry. Members of gated public rooms are re-verified in the background, so a wallet that sells out loses access.

Two rooms show what that looks like on 11 September 2026: SNS Club, gated on a `.sol` domain, had 1,455 members and 3,872 messages; Seeker Club, gated on a `.skr` domain, had 8,637 members, 58,198 messages and 4.9 stars from 41 reviews.

## How this compares to Blockscan Chat

Blockscan Chat, from the Etherscan team, is what most people find first. As of 11 September 2026, its site calls it "verified messaging from wallet owner-to-owner for outreach and social purposes" and says "you can now search and start a chat with any EVM and SVM addresses". On whether your message gets an answer it is blunt: "This will depend on whether or not the recipient chooses to use Blockscan Chat (and decides to send back a response). There is no guarantee."

That is the honest state of every wallet inbox, Cherry included. Choose Blockscan Chat if you live in the explorer and want a ping next to an address you watch. Choose Cherry if the address should turn into a conversation, with encrypted DMs, a Requests folder that keeps cold outreach quiet, and gated rooms around the same wallet. ## Safety rules for wallet DMs

Sending or reading a DM costs nothing on-chain and needs no signature beyond sign-in. The risk is what a stranger asks you to do next.

- Never type a seed phrase into a chat, a form, or a site a DM sends you to. No step in Cherry asks for one.
- The one transaction in this flow is the 0.01 SOL notify transfer, which you approve in your own wallet.
- A bot you have never opened a chat with cannot put a signature prompt in front of you: Cherry refuses those requests until the conversation is accepted.
- The Hidden sub-tab is where impersonators end up, and it carries a standing warning that "official accounts always have a special badge next to their name". Check the badge before trusting a familiar name.
- Treat "send first and I'll send back" as the scam it usually is. In the Cherry mobile app both sides fund an escrow program that settles when both legs are in, and a timed-out deal refunds them.

## Troubleshooting

**The name finds no wallet.** AllDomains names need the full string including the TLD, and a bare word is searched as a `.sol` name. If the full name still finds nothing, it may not be registered: ask for the address and paste that instead.

**The Free option is greyed out.** Your own wallet is classed as too new: Cherry reads the first successful on-chain transaction of the signed-in wallet, and a wallet with none cannot send free requests. The web app says "New wallets must use Notify"; mobile opens a "Free requests unavailable" sheet. The paid path stays open, because nothing notifies anyone until the fee confirms.

**No reply.** Free requests are silent and a decline is silent, so quiet tells you nothing. Pay the notify fee for a push, or find the wallet in a room and talk to its owner there. If a paid DM confirms but never lands, Cherry retries the delivery, and you can then re-send it from the app without a second charge.
