How to promote a meme coin: launch-day runbook

The launch-day runbook for a meme coin: a holders room gated by your mint, a public room strangers can read, a channel, and a claim campaign.

Most launchpads hand you a chart, a contract address, and a suggestion to open a Telegram group. This guide covers the other half: how to promote a meme coin in the first day through rooms that can prove who is in them. Cherry is a wallet-to-wallet messenger and community app for crypto, so holders sign in with the wallet that holds your token and membership is settled against the chain. By the end of the sequence you have four things live: a holders room gated by your mint, a public room a stranger can read without connecting a wallet, an announcements channel, and a claim campaign for the first wave.

Before you start

  • Your mint address, taken from your own deployment. Cherry looks the mint up as you paste it and shows the symbol and name back, which is the guard against pasting a pool address.
  • A wallet signed in at chat.cherry.fun . Sign-in is a message signature, so nothing goes on-chain and there is no gas.
  • Three short pieces of copy written before launch: what the room is, what a member gets, and what gets someone removed.
  • A funded wallet for the claim campaign, in SOL or in your own token, if you plan to run one on day one.

Step 1: Claim the handle and write the storefront

Do this before the chart exists. Every public Cherry group gets its own page on chat.cherry.fun under the handle it claims, and handles are first come, first served, so a copycat can take the obvious one while you are still choosing an avatar. Set it under “Handle” in the group settings.

The same screen holds the storefront: “Community rules” and a “What you get” list of up to six benefits. That page is what a sceptical buyer reads before joining, alongside the member count, the message count, the star rating from members, and the entry requirements. Write the rules as house rules for a trading room, not as a manifesto. More on the fields in the community storefront page .

You know it worked when your handle link, opened in a logged-out window, shows your rules and your benefits list.

Step 2: Gate the holders room with your mint

Create a public group, expand “Access requirements”, switch on “Token requirement”, paste the mint, and put a number in “Minimum amount”. The field takes token units, the number a holder sees in a wallet.

Set the floor to one token. A holdings rule of one keeps the room holders-only and still admits the wallet that bought twelve dollars of supply, which on launch day is most of your community. Cherry re-checks holdings in the background, so a wallet that sells is paywalled; it can take up to a few days to catch up. Nobody runs a verify bot, nobody clicks a verify link, and nobody posts a screenshot of a balance.

Burnie Senders is the honest shape of this on a small token: a public room gated on holding at least 100 BURNIE, with 21 members in September 2026. The full rule set, including combining up to five rules with all or any logic, is in the guide to creating a token-gated group chat .

Step 3: Open the public room and the announcements channel

One room is not enough on launch day, because the people who have not bought yet have nowhere to stand. Open a second public group with no gating rule for them. The Trenches is the pattern at scale: public, ungated, with 5,611 members and 15,670 messages in September 2026.

Then create a channel. A channel is broadcast-only: only the owner and admins post, so the contract address, the listing news and the migration notice stay readable when the main room is moving too fast to follow. Mango Inner Circle runs this way, with 1,671 members and 50 posts in September 2026.

Pin the contract address in all three rooms. Channels covers roles and posting rules in full.

You know it worked when the same wallet can see three rooms in its list and only one of them checks a balance.

Add ?preview=true to the link for the public room and an arrival lands in the conversation itself: real messages, real reactions, a working composer. The wallet is asked for at the moment someone presses send, where the sheet reads “Sign in to send”, and the text they typed is held as a draft until they sign in.

This works for public rooms with no gating rule. Your holders room shows its storefront to logged-out visitors and none of the chat, which is why both exist. Campaign posts, the launch thread and the paid promo all point at the preview link; the handle link is what you give to people who already hold. Where a meme coin crowd lands when nobody hands it a room is covered in this look at where memecoin holders talk .

Step 5: Run a claim campaign for the first wave

A campaign pays SOL or an SPL token to wallets that pass a check, in one of two shapes: the first N claimants, or open for a time window. One wallet claims once. Eligibility can test a token balance, an NFT from a collection, a whitelist you upload, a domain, or a check your own service answers, and the campaign can demand all of the checks or any one of them.

For a launch, the shape that holds up is a balance of your own token plus a claimant cap. That pays people who bought and forces a farmer to fund every wallet before it can claim anything. The claim is off-chain and instant, so the slot is recorded before the wallet opens; the claimant signs and pays the network fee, and Cherry co-signs the payout from your treasury. The mechanics live in airdrops and quest-style eligibility .

You know it worked when a test wallet that holds nothing is refused and a test wallet at your floor is paid.

Step 6: Keep the calls on the record

Type a ticker with a dollar sign or paste a contract address and the message renders a token card with price and market cap, with a Buy button that opens a swap. Switch the call bot on for the room and it posts a leaderboard of the best calls by peak multiplier since the call, crediting the earliest caller for each token however many times the token is posted again. A room with a public record of who called what is worth more to a trader than a room with a bigger number next to it. See the call bot for what it reads and what it posts.

What not to promise when you promote a meme coin

Say what the room is and what a member gets. Do not promise a price, a listing, a floor, or a multiple, in the storefront benefits or in the pinned message. A gated room proves that the people in it hold, and it proves nothing else: the chain publishes your holder distribution to anyone who looks, and a room full of verified wallets sitting under one whale reads exactly like that on any explorer. Cherry also keeps its own brakes on: brand-new wallets cannot post in public groups or leave reviews, and only active members can rate a paid group. Group chats are not end-to-end encrypted, by design, so moderation and bots can work; direct messages are. Nothing here is financial advice. Tokens can lose value.

Troubleshooting

The mint pastes but no token comes back. You have a pool address, a pair address, or a token on another chain. Take the mint from your own deployment transaction.

Members joined, then the count fell. The background re-check caught wallets that sold below your floor. That is the rule working, and the wallets stay in the group and regain access when the balance returns.

No preview button on the storefront. The room is gated, private, or hosting a mini app, or you are looking while signed in. Open the link in a logged-out window.

Nobody can claim the airdrop. The campaign is set to require every check and one of them is a whitelist you never uploaded, or a balance floor above what most claimants hold. Loosen the policy to any check, or lower the floor, and test with a wallet you control.

Create the three rooms at chat.cherry.fun before your first buyer arrives.

FAQ

How do I promote a meme coin on launch day?

Have the rooms ready before the chart moves: a holders room gated by your mint, a public room anyone can read, and an announcements channel for the contract address and the updates. Then give the first wave a reason to hold by running a claim campaign that checks a balance of your own token.

How do I market a Solana meme coin without a mailing list?

Let the chain qualify people. A room gated by your mint admits any wallet holding the minimum and drops it when the wallet sells, so the membership list maintains itself and you never collect an address or an email.

Do I need a Telegram group for a meme coin community?

No. A Telegram group cannot tell a holder from a tourist without a bot and a verify link, which is the part that gets impersonated. A wallet-native room checks the holding itself, and a preview link lets a stranger read the conversation before connecting anything.

How do I stop fake holders from joining the chat?

Set a holdings rule on the room and let Cherry check it. Membership is settled against the chain when someone joins, and Cherry re-checks holdings in the background, so a wallet that sells is paywalled. Brand-new wallets also cannot post in public groups.

What should a launch-day airdrop require?

A balance of your own token, one claim per wallet, and a cap on the number of claimants or a window that closes. That pays the people who bought and makes a farmer open a funded wallet for every claim.
