# .skr domain: what it is and how to get one

> A .skr domain is the soulbound name claimed on a Solana Seeker. What it is, how to get one, how it differs from .sol, and how Cherry rooms check it.


A .skr domain is the on-chain name that belongs to a Solana Seeker phone: something like alice.skr, chosen once during setup and soulbound to the wallet that claimed it. Solana Mobile issues it as part of Seeker ID, alongside the non-transferable Genesis Token that proves the device is real. On Cherry, the wallet-to-wallet messenger and community app for crypto, a .skr domain is your display name, a mention and DM target, and a rule a group chat can check before it lets you in.

## How a .skr domain works

The name is part of Seeker ID, which Solana Mobile describes as a digital identifier tied to the phone: the wallet address, a username, and the Genesis Token in one. Its help center is blunt about one consequence. Once chosen, the name can no longer be changed.

It is also not for sale. The Genesis Token attached to a Seeker ID is not manually transferable, and moves only when the Seeker ID moves to another seed. There is no auction, no renewal date, and no way to buy one from a holder. Solana Mobile reported more than 75,000 `.skr` names claimed by October 2025.

Otherwise it behaves like a Solana name: wallets and apps resolve `alice.skr` to an address.

## .skr vs .sol

`.sol` names come from Solana Name Service, now also written `.sns`: one registry with two labels, so a rule written either way is satisfied by the same holdings. The difference that matters is ownership. A `.sol` name is registered by any wallet and can be traded; a `.skr` name arrives with a device and stays there.

## What a .skr domain does on Cherry

Three things. It becomes your display name and the string people @mention in a room. It is a DM target, so anyone can message `alice.skr` without knowing the address, and the conversation waits if that wallet has never opened Cherry. And it is a gating rule: in the Cherry web app a group's owner turns on "Domain requirement", described there as "Hold a wallet domain", types the ending, and the room's requirement line reads "Hold a .skr domain".

Because the name cannot be sold, Cherry verifies it once when you join and never asks again. A `.sol`-gated room works the other way: the name can change hands, so Cherry keeps checking in the background and access ends when it leaves the wallet.

The Seeker Club is the example: the largest Solana Seeker owners chat, gated by a `.skr` domain, with more than 8,600 members in September 2026.

## How to get a .skr domain

You need a Seeker. Set up the Seed Vault Wallet, choose a primary wallet, open the Seeker ID card, and pick your name; the Genesis Token is added at the same time. The name is permanent, so pick it carefully. Sign in to Cherry with that wallet and it replaces your address across the app.

You get one from a Solana Seeker. During Seed Vault Wallet setup you open the Seeker ID card, choose the name, and add the Genesis Token. There is no secondary market, because the name is not transferable.

### What is the difference between a .skr domain and a .sol domain?

A .sol name comes from Solana Name Service, is registered by any wallet, and can be sold. A .skr name comes with a Seeker and stays with it. On Cherry that changes the check: a .skr rule is verified once at join, while a .sol rule is re-checked in the background.
