A chat app where your wallet is your account is one you enter with a signature instead of a sign-up form. Cherry (cherry.fun) works that way: you sign in with the wallet you already use, and that address is your account, your contact card, and your entry to every gated room. No phone number, email or KYC. Your display name comes from a name your wallet owns on-chain, and your picture can come from a domain record or an NFT you hold. What wallet identity does on Cherry

Your address is the account, and everything on your profile is derived from what that address owns. Here is what that means in practice, as of 11 September 2026:

• Sign-in is Sign In With Solana (SIWS). The wallet signs a message, nothing goes on-chain, and there is no gas. Phantom, Solflare, Backpack and the Seed Vault Wallet on Solana Seeker all work, the last through Mobile Wallet Adapter on Android.
• The same signature derives the keys for end-to-end encrypted DMs, so proving ownership and getting a message key are one step. Group chats are not end-to-end encrypted, by design, so moderation and bots can work.
• Display names come from names your wallet owns: .sol and .sns from SNS (one registry, two labels), .skr from a Solana Seeker, and AllDomains names such as a .bonk name.
• Avatars come from an SNS picture record, an NFT in the wallet, or an upload.
• Badges for trading volume and PnL sit next to your display name.
• Groups claim their own handle, which becomes a public page: @seekerclub lives at https://chat.cherry.fun/@seekerclub.
• 77,420 wallets had signed in as of 10 September 2026. None of them created a username or a password.

How it works

Step 1: one signature, no transaction

The web sign-in sheet opens with one wallet as the primary button, labelled “Sign in with” and the wallet’s name, with the rest folded under “Use different wallet”. The next screen, “Secure Authentication”, says what the signature is for: “Sign a message with your wallet to verify ownership and start your session.” You press “Sign & Authenticate” and approve in the wallet.

Hardware wallets get their own path, because Ledger’s Solana app will not sign an arbitrary message. Ticking “Using a Ledger hardware wallet?” switches Cherry to a transaction object instead, and the note on that screen is honest about what you will see: it “can never be sent to the network and costs nothing”, your wallet may warn that it could not estimate balance changes, and you need blind signing enabled in the Ledger Solana app.

Sessions run per device across web, iOS and Android, and each device signs in with the wallet.

Step 2: your name comes from the chain

Once you are in, Cherry reads the names the address owns and picks a display name. .sol and .sns are the same SNS registry under two labels, which matters in practice: a gating rule written either way is satisfied by the same holdings.

You choose between the names you hold in the profile editor, under the section titled “Domains”. Each name is a chip; the one in use reads “Your display name” on hover, and the others read “Set” plus the name plus “as your display name”. A plus chip labelled “Buy a domain” opens an in-app search and purchase flow, so a wallet with no name can get one without leaving the app. An identity with no name at all falls back to a shortened address.

Step 3: avatars and badges

The avatar picker offers three sources, and its own captions name them: “Gallery” (“Upload from device”), “SNS” (“Your SNS picture”), and “NFT” (“From your collection”). The SNS option reads the picture record attached to a name you own, so updating the record on-chain updates the face Cherry shows.

Badges are separate from names. A badge belongs to your wallet, so it travels with you from one community to the next. Trading history also decides who gets in: a room can require a minimum wallet balance or trading volume, which is how “7-figure club” style rooms are built. More on that in wallet-gated clubs .

What is different from an app that makes a wallet for you

The competing design gives every new account a wallet the app creates, usually behind a social or email login. That is a real trade: it is faster for someone with no wallet at all, and it gives the app a recovery story. It also means the identity starts empty, and the holdings, names and history that already exist in your main wallet are somewhere else.

Two mechanism-level consequences follow for a wallet-first app. First, gating reads the wallet you signed in with, so the holdings that grant entry are the ones in your trading wallet and nothing has to be linked or attested. Who uses it and for what

Traders arrive with a record. A name others recognise from the trenches shows up on every message, a badge sits beside it, and volume-threshold rooms read the same wallet, so nothing needs to be claimed in a form. From there the address itself is the contact: you can DM any wallet address or name, and it waits for the owner even if they have never signed in.

Name holders build rooms around the registry itself. SNS Club is gated on holding a .sol name, and had 1,455 members and 3,872 messages as of 11 September 2026.

Seeker owners use the phone’s soulbound name as the credential. Seeker Club is gated on holding a .skr name and had 8,637 members, 58,198 messages and 4.9 stars from 41 reviews as of 11 September 2026. Limits and honest caveats

The account has no recovery story that Cherry can run for you. Lose access to the wallet and you lose the identity attached to it, because there is no email or phone on file to fall back on. Treat the wallet’s backup as the account’s backup.

Name labels are case-sensitive; only the suffix ignores case. Alice.sol and alice.sol are two separate registrations that can have two different owners, while .SOL and .sol are one. Copy names rather than retyping them.

If Cherry cannot read the chain at the moment it checks a wallet, it does not count that as a failed check. A network problem will not push a paying member behind a paywall or empty a gated room.

Group chats are not end-to-end encrypted, by design, so moderation and bots can work; DMs are, with keys derived from the sign-in signature. The detail is in encrypted DMs with no phone and no KYC . How to start

1. Open https://chat.cherry.fun on desktop or mobile, or install the iOS or Android app.
2. Press the “Sign in with” button for your wallet, or open “Use different wallet” to pick another. On a Solana Seeker, the Seed Vault Wallet signs through Mobile Wallet Adapter.
3. On the “Secure Authentication” screen, press “Sign & Authenticate” and approve the message in your wallet. Tick “Using a Ledger hardware wallet?” first if you are on a Ledger.
4. Open your profile editor and check the “Domains” section. Tap the name you want as your display name, or the plus chip labelled “Buy a domain” if you own none.
5. Set a picture from “Gallery”, “SNS” or “NFT”, write a bio, and save.
6. Search a name or paste an address to start a DM, or join a public room and let the gating check read your wallet.
