A chat app where your wallet is your account lets you in with a wallet signature. Cherry (cherry.fun), a wallet-to-wallet messenger and community app for crypto, offers that kind of sign-in: the wallet you already use signs one message, and that wallet is linked to your Cherry ID, the account other people see. Signing in with a wallet needs no phone number, email or KYC. Your display name can come from a name your wallets own on-chain, and your picture from an NFT in a wallet you show or an upload. What wallet identity does on Cherry

Your account is a Cherry ID: one person with a display name, picture, @handle and badges, holding the wallets they link. Wallet sign-in is the way in for anyone who already trades from a wallet. Here is what that means in practice, as of October 2026:

• Sign-in is Sign In With Solana (SIWS). The wallet signs a message, nothing goes on-chain, and there is no gas. Phantom, Solflare, Backpack and the Seed Vault Wallet on Solana Seeker all work, the last through Mobile Wallet Adapter on Android.
• The same signature derives the keys for end-to-end encrypted DMs, so proving ownership and getting a message key are one step. Group chats are not end-to-end encrypted, by design, so moderation and bots can work.
• A Cherry ID can hold several wallets . In Settings, “Add a wallet” asks you to “Sign a message to prove it is yours. Nothing moves.”
• Display names come by default from names your wallets own: .sol and .sns from SNS (one registry, two labels), .skr from a Solana Seeker, and AllDomains names such as a .bonk name.
• Your picture comes from an NFT in a wallet you show, an upload, or your X picture if you linked X.
• Badges are assigned by the Cherry team and sit next to your display name.
• Groups claim their own handle, which becomes a public page: @seekerclub lives at https://chat.cherry.fun/@seekerclub. A person can claim an @handle too, from a linked X account or a domain they hold.
• 77,420 wallets had signed in as of 10 September 2026.

How it works

Step 1: one signature, no transaction

In the Cherry web app the wallet path sits under the social sign-in options. “Sign in with a wallet” opens the list of wallets, each row reading “Sign in with” and the wallet’s name, with the one you used last at the top. The next screen, “Secure Authentication”, says what the signature is for: “Sign a message with your wallet to verify ownership and start your session.” You press “Sign & Authenticate” and approve in the wallet. While it waits for you, the card reads “Signing is free and moves no money”.

A Ledger gets its own path in the web app. The sign-in card carries a switch row titled “Ledger hardware wallet”, with the subline “Approve on the device”. Turn the switch on and you approve a transaction in place of a message signature. The note under the row is honest about what you will see: the transaction “can never be sent to the network and costs nothing”, your wallet may warn that it “may be unsafe” or that it couldn’t estimate balance changes, and you need “Allow blind signing” enabled in the Solana app settings on the Ledger. If you sign in with a Ledger while the switch is off, the card says “Ledger can’t sign messages. Turn on Ledger mode below and try again.” The app remembers the switch for that wallet.

Sessions run per device across web, iOS and Android, and each device signs in on its own.

Step 2: your name comes from the chain

Once you are in, Cherry reads the names your wallets own and, by default, uses one as your display name. .sol and .sns are the same SNS registry under two labels, which matters in practice: a gating rule written either way is satisfied by the same holdings.

In the Cherry web app you pick your name on the Cherry ID screen under “Display name”: each name a shown wallet owns is a row marked “Domain”, a linked X handle is a row of its own, and “Custom” reads “Type your own · 6 to 32 characters”. With no domain at all, your Cherry ID uses your X handle if you linked one, or else a random two-word name. A bare address shows only for a wallet that is not on anyone’s profile.

Step 3: avatars and badges

On the Cherry ID screen, “Picture” offers “From an NFT” (“A picture from an NFT in a wallet you show”) and “Upload a picture”, plus “Picture from X” once X is linked.

Badges are separate from names. The Cherry team assigns them, and they show on your profile, so they travel with you from one community to the next. Trading history works on entry instead: a room can require a minimum wallet balance or trading volume, which is how “7-figure club” style rooms are built. More on that in wallet-gated clubs .

What is different from an app that makes a wallet for you

Some chat apps, such as dm.fun and Towns in the table below, give every new account a wallet the app creates, usually behind a social or email login. The Cherry web app offers that route as well as wallet sign-in. cherry.fun says: “Use an account you already have. Google, Apple or X, you name it.” A Google, Apple or X sign-up then reaches a step titled “Your Cherry Wallet”, which says “Every Cherry ID has a wallet for mini apps and tips.” It asks for a “Password” and “Confirm password”, notes “Cherry can’t reset it, so keep it safe.”, and finishes with “Create my wallet”. The same flow describes that wallet as “Separate from your main wallet”: “Mini apps and purchases use this one; any wallet you link later stays out of reach.”

Wallet sign-in is the bring-your-own-wallet path. With wallet sign-in, the holdings, names and history in the wallet you already trade from come with it the moment it signs in.

Two things follow when you sign in with the wallet you trade from. First, gating reads that wallet on-chain, so the holdings that grant entry are the ones already in it and nothing has to be attested. Second, the name that identifies you was bought on-chain, so anyone can check who owns it, inside Cherry or outside it. See the full contrast in Cherry vs dm.fun .

Who uses it and for what

Traders arrive with a record. A name others recognise from the trenches shows up on every message, and volume-threshold rooms read the same wallet, so nothing needs to be claimed in a form. From there the address itself is the contact: you can DM any wallet address or name, and it waits for the owner even if they have never signed in.

Name holders build rooms around the registry itself. SNS Club is gated on holding a .sol name, and had 1,455 members and 3,872 messages as of 11 September 2026.

Seeker owners use the phone’s soulbound name as the credential. Seeker Club is gated on holding a .skr name and had 8,637 members, 58,198 messages and 4.9 stars from 41 reviews as of 11 September 2026. Because .skr is soulbound, Cherry verifies it once at join and never re-checks it, the opposite of how a tradable token is treated in token-gated chat . The Seeker Club guide walks through joining.

Limits and honest caveats

Cherry cannot recover an external wallet for you. If your Cherry ID has one external wallet and no other way in, losing that wallet loses the account, because wallet sign-in keeps no email or phone on file. Treat the wallet’s backup as the account’s backup. The Cherry Wallet from a social sign-up has its own recovery screens, starting with “Your recovery phrase”.

Name labels are case-sensitive; only the suffix ignores case. Alice.sol and alice.sol are two separate registrations that can have two different owners, while .SOL and .sol are one. Copy names rather than retyping them.

If Cherry cannot read the chain at the moment it checks a wallet, it does not count that as a failed check. A network problem will not push a paying member behind a paywall or empty a gated room.

Group chats are not end-to-end encrypted, by design, so moderation and bots can work; DMs are, with keys derived from the sign-in signature. The detail is in encrypted DMs with no phone and no KYC . How to start

1. Open https://chat.cherry.fun on desktop or mobile, or install the iOS or Android app.
2. On the web sign-in screen, press “Sign in with a wallet” and pick your wallet from the list. On a Solana Seeker, the Seed Vault Wallet signs through Mobile Wallet Adapter.
3. On the “Secure Authentication” screen, press “Sign & Authenticate” and approve the message in your wallet. On a Ledger, turn on the “Ledger hardware wallet” switch first.
4. Open your Cherry ID and tap “Display name” to pick a domain, your X handle or a custom name.
5. Set a picture from “From an NFT” or “Upload a picture”, write a bio, and save it.
6. Search a name or paste an address to start a DM, or join a public room and let the gating check read your wallet.
