Wallet gated community: balance and volume clubs

How a wallet gated community works on Cherry: USD balance and trading-volume rules, the Solflare wallet gate, the eligibility preview, and how to join one.

A wallet gated community is a group chat whose entry rule reads the wallet you signed in with: what it holds in dollars, how much it has traded, or which wallet app it connected from. On Cherry (cherry.fun), a wallet-to-wallet messenger and community app for crypto, Cherry runs that check itself when you press Join, and a balance or volume rule keeps being re-checked in the background while you are a member. Cherry calls these rooms wallet-gated clubs, with a “7-Figure Club” example. This page is for community owners who want a room sorted by what wallets do, and for traders working out how to get into one.

What a wallet gated community checks

Two of Cherry’s seven gating rule types look at the wallet as a whole, not at a specific token or NFT, as of 11 September 2026:

  • Wallet balance and trading volume: a minimum USD balance, a minimum USD trading volume, or both, with its own AND or OR switch between the two numbers.
  • Wallet app: the wallet application the member signed in with. Solflare is the only supported wallet app as of 11 September 2026.
  • Either rule can sit beside token, NFT, domain and payment rules. A group takes up to five rules, combined with all (every rule passes) or any (one is enough).
  • The club’s page shows the requirement before you join, and once you are signed in it marks the requirements you pass.
  • Members are re-checked in the background, so a club gated on balance keeps testing the balance.

The full rule catalogue, the combination logic and how re-checks play out live on the token gated chat page. This page covers the two wallet rules.

How the two wallet rules work

Each rule shows up as a plain requirement line, and Cherry checks it against the wallet you signed in with.

RuleWhat it checksWhat the owner setsExample requirement line
Wallet balance and volumeThe wallet’s total USD value and its USD trading volumeA minimum balance, a minimum volume, and AND or OR between them“Hold $100K+ in wallet balance”

Balance and volume

A balance-and-volume rule can carry one number or two. With one, the requirement reads “Hold $100K+ in wallet balance” or “Have $1M+ in trading volume”. With two, the rule’s own logic decides: under OR a wallet passes on either count, under AND it has to clear both. That switch is separate from the group-level all-or-any logic across rules, so a room can ask for a .sol name AND (a big balance OR a big volume).

Balance is the wallet’s total USD value, not the balance of one mint, which is what makes this rule different from a token gate: it does not care what you hold, only how much it is worth. Volume is the total trading volume of the same address. Cherry works out both for the wallet when you press Join.

A wallet that misses gets its own number back. The failure message names the gap and what the wallet has, in the shape “You need balance of $100K+ (you have $12K) to join this club.”

The wallet app gate

The wallet-app rule is a soft gate. Your wallet app tells Cherry its name when you sign in, the rule compares that name against the room’s list, and nothing about it is proven on-chain. Cherry treats the wallet name as a community signal, not a security boundary, since it can be faked.

It exists for partner rooms. A wallet team gets a room only its own users enter, and the member does nothing beyond connecting the wallet they already use.

What the member sees

On a club’s page at chat.cherry.fun/@<handle>, each requirement renders as a chip with a lock icon. Signed in, a chip you pass is marked, and a circular arrow button titled “Re-check eligibility” re-runs the check without a page reload. Inside the app, the group info sheet lists the same rules under “Requirements”, or “Requirements · any one” when the group uses any logic.

The difference between browsing and pressing a button matters for a balance club. The marks you see in the room list and in discovery can lag briefly, while a join attempt and a manual re-check always read the wallet fresh. Buy into the threshold, press Re-check, and the answer reflects the wallet as it is now.

What is different from a hand-vetted whale room

Cherry’s line for gating is blunt: no verify bots, no verify links, no fake screenshots, the chain is checked by the app. A balance screenshot proves nothing about who controls the wallet, and it says nothing about what that wallet holds a month later.

Cherry replaces the screenshot with a signature. The wallet that signs in is the wallet the rule reads, so the claim and the proof are the same act. The number is compared at join and re-checked in the background. A member who falls below is paywalled rather than kicked: they keep the room and its history in their chat list, message content is withheld, and they see “You no longer meet this group’s requirements” with a Re-check button. An admin does not have to run the vetting again, and nobody is asked to prove themselves in public.

Who uses it and for what

Wallet clubs work when the thing members have in common is behaviour, not a single token.

Solflare Community is a live example of the wallet-app rule. Sign in with Solflare and you are in; its requirement line reads “Use Solflare to join this group.” and its description is “Exclusive community for Solflare users only”. As of 11 September 2026 the room has 153 members and 67 messages, with 5 stars from 8 reviews. For a wallet team, membership therefore tracks the wallet’s own user base.

The balance-and-volume pattern is Cherry’s “7-Figure Club” example: entry that asks for portfolio size instead of a payment, so the room fills with people who can actually take the other side of a trade. Volume works the same way for a caller group that wants wallets that trade, whatever they hold. Because the two numbers can be combined with OR, one rule covers both kinds of member.

Owners who want a club anyone can buy into should read paid communities and channels instead: a payment rule sells entry, while a wallet rule filters for it. Rooms for one collection belong on NFT gated chat , and rooms for one token in this guide to creating a token-gated group chat . Inside any of them, a member’s name, badges and profile come from wallet identity , and a token posted in the room can be bought from the chat with in-chat trading .

Limits and honest caveats

  • The create form does not offer these two rules. As of 11 September 2026 its Access requirements section offers Paid entry, Token requirement, NFT requirement and Domain requirement; balance, volume and wallet-app rules are set up together with Cherry for partner rooms.
  • The wallet-app rule is checked at join only, and members are not re-tested on it later. In a room that pairs a wallet-app rule with a balance rule under any logic, the balance is also checked at join only.
  • The wallet-app check trusts what your wallet app says about itself. Treat it as a community gate and pair it with a holdings rule if the room holds anything worth stealing.
  • Thresholds apply to the single wallet you signed in with. Holdings across several wallets are not pooled for this rule.
  • Group chats are not end-to-end encrypted, by design, so moderation and bots can work. DMs are end-to-end encrypted with keys derived from your wallet.
  • Background re-checks cover public gated groups only. A gated group that is private is still checked when someone joins, but its members are not re-checked afterwards.
  • Background re-checks are not instant, so a wallet that drops below the line can keep reading for a few days unless the owner forces a check.
  • If Cherry cannot read a wallet during a background re-check, the member stays, because an outage should never paywall anyone. At join time the same kind of hiccup can show your balance as zero: press Re-check in that case.
  • The balance and volume figures are dollar values Cherry works out for the address; you cannot read them directly off an explorer.

How to join a wallet gated club

  1. Open the club’s page at chat.cherry.fun/@<handle> in a browser, or search for it inside the Cherry web app .
  2. Read the requirement chips under the title. They tell you whether the room wants a balance, a volume figure, a specific wallet app, or a combination, and “Requirements · any one” means one of them is enough.
  3. Connect the wallet that qualifies and sign the sign-in message. Nothing goes on-chain and there is no gas. For a wallet-app club, connect from that wallet: Solflare for Solflare Community.
  4. Check the chips again. The ones your wallet passes are marked, and an unmet one tells you the figure you are short of.
  5. Press “Join Group”. Cherry checks every rule against your wallet again at that moment, and you are in only if they pass.
  6. If you top up or trade after being refused, press the “Re-check eligibility” button. It reads your wallet fresh, while the status shown after a page reload can lag briefly.

Members you meet in a club are reachable one to one: you can DM any wallet address from their profile, whether or not they have opened Cherry that day.

FAQ

How do wallet gated communities work?

The room carries a rule, and Cherry checks that rule against the wallet you signed in with. A balance-and-volume rule compares your wallet’s total USD value and its USD trading volume against the numbers the owner set. A wallet-app rule compares the wallet app you signed in with against the room’s list of allowed apps. The balance-and-volume rule runs when you press Join and again in the background while you are a member. The wallet-app rule is checked at join only and is never re-run later.

How do I join a wallet gated club?

Open the club’s page at chat.cherry.fun/@<handle>, connect the wallet that qualifies, read the requirement line, and press Join Group. If a requirement is unmet the app says which one and what your own figure is, and the Re-check eligibility button runs the check again once the wallet qualifies.

What counts as balance and volume?

Balance is the total USD value Cherry calculates for the address, not the balance of one token. Volume is the total trading volume Cherry calculates for the same address. A single rule can carry both numbers and combine them with AND or with OR, so an owner can admit a wallet that holds a lot, trades a lot, or does both.

Can I set a balance threshold myself when I create a group?

Not from the create form. As of 11 September 2026 its Access requirements section covers Paid entry, Token requirement, NFT requirement and Domain requirement. Balance, volume and wallet-app rules are set up together with Cherry for partner rooms.

Can someone fake the wallet-app check?

Yes, with effort. The wallet app’s name is reported at sign-in and not proven on-chain, so Cherry treats it as a community signal, not a security boundary. Pair it with a holdings rule when the room protects something valuable.

What happens if my balance drops after I join?

Cherry re-checks holdings in the background, and it can take several days for a re-check to catch the drop. Then you are paywalled: you stay in the group, message content is withheld, and Re-check restores access as soon as the wallet qualifies again.
