Token gated chat BSC: rooms that read BEP-20 balances

Token gated chat on BSC: BEP-20 balance rules with a contract address, all-or-any logic, background re-checks, and paid entry for BNB Chain rooms.

Token gated chat BSC communities set up on Cherry is a group chat that a wallet can enter, and stay in, only while it holds the BEP-20 token the owner named. Cherry (cherry.fun) is a wallet-to-wallet messenger and community app for crypto: you sign in with a wallet, DM any address, and join or create token-gated, NFT-gated, and paid group chats, with no phone number, email, or KYC. This page is for BNB Chain token teams, community-takeover leads, and group owners who run a holder room on Telegram today and want the chat app itself to check the holding. BSC and BNB Chain mean the same chain here: BNB Smart Chain is the smart-contract chain people still type as “bsc”, and BNB Chain is the brand that covers it.

What BEP-20 gating does on Cherry

Cherry checks gating rules against the chain at two moments: when a wallet asks to join a public group, and in the background for as long as that wallet stays a member. On BNB Smart Chain the fungible rule reads a BEP-20 balance. As of 10 September 2026:

  • Seven rule types exist: token balance, NFT collection, Metaplex Core collection, domain name, wallet balance or trading volume, the wallet app a member signs in with, and payment.
  • A group takes up to five rules, combined with all (every rule must pass) or any (at least one), with at most one payment rule.
  • A token-balance rule takes two inputs: a contract address and a minimum amount in token units. Cherry supports token-gated chats for BEP-20 holders on BNB Smart Chain, for ERC-20 and NFT holders on Base and Ethereum , and for SPL and Token-2022 holders on Solana.
  • Every public group gets a storefront page at chat.cherry.fun/@<handle> where each requirement shows as a chip, and a signed-in visitor sees which chips they already pass.
  • Members are re-verified in the background. A wallet that drops below the minimum stays in the group behind a paywall.

BEP-20 is the fungible-token standard of BNB Smart Chain. Crypto.com’s glossary describes it as a standard that came out of Ethereum’s ERC-20 and is “fully compatible with it”. That compatibility is why a rule for a BSC room has the same shape as one for an Ethereum room: point at a contract, name a floor. The token-gated chat page covers the same mechanics for every chain.

How a BEP-20 holder room works

A gated group is a public group with a list of rules attached. Cherry checks that list when someone asks to join, and again in the background for everyone already inside.

The rule the owner writes

In the create-group editor, “Access requirements” is a collapsed, optional card on public groups, and its header summarises what is switched on: “Token-gated”, “NFT”, “Domain”, or “Optional”. Switching on the token requirement gives two fields, the token address and a “Minimum amount” in token units, where 500 means 500 whole tokens. The hint under them states the policy: the balance is checked at join and re-checked periodically, and members who drop below the minimum lose access until they hold enough again.

Paste the wrong address and the editor says so before you save. It looks the token up, shows the symbol and name when it finds the token, and warns you to double-check when it does not. An NFT collection rule sits in the same card if your project has one.

Combining rules

Add a second requirement and a logic row appears, labelled “To join, members need”, with two choices: “All of these” or “Any one”. Five rules is the ceiling. Two token rules under “Any one” admit holders of your BEP-20 token or of the same project’s token on another chain; a token rule plus a paid entry under “All of these” sets a floor and a fee together. The requirement line on the storefront joins the rules with “+” or “or”, so a visitor reads the same logic Cherry applies.

After someone joins

Cherry keeps re-checking every member’s holdings on-chain in the background. As of 10 September 2026:

  • A wallet that sells below the minimum is paywalled at a later re-check, so access ends some time after the sale.
  • A glitch never throws out a holder who never sold. The paywall lands only once Cherry has confirmed the balance is gone, and if it cannot read the chain at that moment, the member keeps access.
  • Owners, admins, and members invited by either skip holdings checks, because an invite is a staff vouch. A payment rule still applies to them.
  • Saving new rules offers to apply them to existing members immediately.

A paywalled member is still a member. The room keeps its place in their chat list, but message content is withheld everywhere: the message list, new messages as they arrive, push notifications, and the last-message preview. A Re-check button restores access the moment the wallet holds enough.

BNB Chain tokens worth a holder room

ByteTree’s research note of 31 July 2026 put BSC at around 2.2 million addresses transacting daily, and at 15.1 million daily transactions against 3.4 million on 1 January 2025. Five assets a room could be built on, with contracts and market caps as of 11 September 2026:

TokenWhat it isBEP-20 contractThe room it makes sense for
BNBNative coin of BNB Smart Chain, rank #4, $95.2B capnone (native coin, no BEP-20 contract)A wallet balance rule, set up with Cherry
CAKEPancakeSwap’s governance token, $685.6M cap0x0e09fabb73bd3ade0a17ecc321fd13a19e81ce82A DEX governance room where proposals get argued before the vote
FLOKIMemecoin with BSC and Ethereum contracts, $233.6M cap0xfb5b838b6cfeedc2873ab27866079ac55363d37eTwo rules under “Any one”, so both chains share a room
XVSVenus Protocol’s token for its BNB Chain money market, $51.9M cap0xcf6bb5389c92bdda8a3747ddb454cb7a64626c63A borrower and supplier room tied to a lending floor
LISTALista DAO’s token for BNB liquid staking and lisUSD, $31.4M cap0xfceb31a79f71ac9cbdcf853519c1b12d379edc46A DAO room where voting weight and chat access read one balance

Two practical notes. BNB has no BEP-20 contract of its own, because it is the coin the chain charges gas in, so a token-balance rule cannot point at it; a BNB holders room uses a wallet balance rule. And tickers collide on BSC: search “CHEEMS” on an explorer and several contracts answer. Gate by contract address, never by symbol, and copy that address from the project’s own site.

What is different from a verify bot

Telegram and Discord gating for BSC projects runs through an outside bot: it DMs you a link, you connect and sign on a separate site, the bot grants a role, and a re-verification prompt asks you to repeat that later. Every one of those steps is a place for a fake admin to insert a lookalike link. On 1 October 2025, Cryptopolitan reported that the official BNB Chain English-language X account had been compromised and used to post links to phishing sites that prompted for a wallet connection; CZ warned from his own account, “The @BNBCHAIN account is compromised. The hacker posted links to phishing websites. Do NOT connect your wallet.” When a project’s own verified channel can carry that prompt, a member cannot tell a real verify link from a fake one by who sent it.

Cherry removes the link. The wallet signature is the sign-in, so there is no account to connect to a chat identity. The rule check happens at the moment of joining, and re-verification is a background read of the chain. The only moment a member acts is the Re-check button after they have lapsed, inside the room they are already in.

A payment rule turns a BSC community into a paid one: one-time entry, or a recurring membership that renews each period. As of 10 September 2026, one payment settles in two legs, 70% to the group owner’s wallet and 30% to the Cherry treasury, and membership activates only once it confirms on-chain. Four rules to know before you price anything:

  • Paid groups have to stay public. The storefront page is what sells them, so the visibility toggle is blocked for a group carrying a payment rule.
  • Leaving and rejoining a one-time paid group is free, because the receipt is durable. A lapsed subscriber is paywalled once their period ends and keeps their history when they renew.
  • An owner or admin invite is a lifetime comp. A regular member’s invite lands the invitee on the paywall.
  • Active members can rate a paid group from 1 to 5 with text, and the rating shows on the storefront.

Payments are priced in USDC or SOL and settle on Solana, so the fee side of a BSC room never touches BNB; only the holdings rule reads BNB Chain. The paid communities and channels page covers pricing and cadence in full.

Who uses it and for what

A CTO team inheriting an abandoned BSC memecoin gets the clearest win. The old Telegram is full of wallets that sold months ago and of accounts using the old admin names. A new room with one token-balance rule, at a floor that costs something to clear, re-forms the holder base in an afternoon, and background re-checks keep it that way with no bot to run.

A DeFi project with a governance token runs the second pattern: a room at a small holding for general talk, and a second room at a serious floor for the wallets whose votes decide things. Both read one contract at different minimums.

The third pattern belongs to multi-chain projects. FLOKI’s contracts on BSC and Ethereum are separate addresses for one community; two token rules under “Any one” put both sets of holders in one chat instead of two half-empty ones. The multichain token-gated chat page covers that shape across Solana and the EVM chains.

Single-rule gating already runs in production on Cherry. SNS Club, gated by “Hold a .sol domain”, had 1,455 members and 3,872 messages on 11 September 2026, with 5 stars from 2 reviews.

A BEP-20 room is that mechanism with a contract address in place of a TLD.

Limits and honest caveats

  • Group chats are not end-to-end encrypted, by design, so moderation, bots, and gating can work. DMs are end-to-end encrypted, with keys derived from your wallet.
  • The re-check and paywall behaviour described above is the same for every gated room, whichever chain the rule reads.
  • Rules run on public groups. An asset-gated group can go private, but then entry is by invite and the rules are held in a paused, read-only state until it is public again. A paid group cannot be private at all.
  • The self-serve editor offers token balance, NFT collection, domain, and paid entry. Wallet balance or trading-volume rules, and rules on the wallet app a member signs in with, are set up with Cherry for partner rooms, which is why a BNB balance room needs a conversation.
  • The background re-check is not instant: a seller can keep reading for several days after the sale unless the owner applies the rules to existing members immediately.
  • Minimums apply to the wallet that signed in. Balances are not pooled across a member’s other wallets.
  • The contract addresses above are as of 11 September 2026, and CAKE’s is the one BscScan shows for the PancakeSwap token. Confirm any address on the project’s own site before saving it into a rule.

How to start

  1. Open chat.cherry.fun , connect a wallet, and sign the sign-in message. Nothing goes on-chain and there is no gas.
  2. Press “Create group”, name it, and leave visibility on Public.
  3. Open “Access requirements”, switch on the token requirement, paste the BEP-20 contract address, and set “Minimum amount” in token units.
  4. Add more requirements if the room needs them: an NFT collection, a domain, or “Paid entry” for a fee. With two or more switched on, set “To join, members need” to “All of these” or “Any one”.
  5. Press Create. Claim a handle in the group settings and share chat.cherry.fun/@<yourhandle>, the storefront page that carries the requirement chips.
  6. Post that link where your holders already are, including the Telegram you are moving off. Anyone who holds passes on the first try, and anyone who does not sees which requirement failed.

FAQ

How do I set up a BEP-20 holders chat?

Create a public group in the Cherry web app, open “Access requirements”, switch on the token requirement, paste the BEP-20 contract address, and set a minimum amount in token units. Cherry reads the balance at join and re-checks it in the background afterwards.

Does token gated chat on BSC need a verify bot?

No. Your wallet signature is the sign-in, so there is no account to link and no verification site to visit. Nobody DMs you a link to connect.

What happens when a member sells the token?

Cherry re-checks holdings in the background, and a wallet that has dropped below the minimum is paywalled: it stays in the group, but message content is withheld until it holds enough again and presses Re-check. If Cherry cannot read the chain at that moment, the member keeps access.

Can I gate a room by BNB itself?

BNB is the native coin of BNB Smart Chain and has no BEP-20 contract of its own, so a token-balance rule cannot point at it. A BNB room uses a wallet balance rule, which Cherry sets up with the owner for partner rooms.

Can one room admit holders from BNB Chain and Solana?

Yes. Add one token-balance rule per chain and set the combination to “Any one”, so a wallet passing either rule gets in. Multi-chain projects use this to keep all their holders in one room.

How does paid group chat work on BNB Chain?

A payment rule adds a one-time or recurring entry fee, priced in USDC or SOL and settled on Solana, not in BNB. As of 10 September 2026 the split is 70% to the group owner’s wallet and 30% to Cherry, and a paid group has to stay public because its storefront page is where it sells.
