# Multichain token gated chat: one room, five chains

> Multichain token gated chat on Cherry: SPL, Token-2022, ERC-20, ERC-721 and BEP-20 rules in one room across five chains, checked by the app itself.


Multichain token gated chat is one group chat whose entry rules point at assets on more than one chain: a minimum balance of a Solana SPL token, an ERC-20 contract on Base, a BEP-20 balance on BNB Smart Chain, an NFT from a collection. Cherry (cherry.fun) is a wallet-to-wallet messenger and community app for crypto. You sign in with a wallet, DM any wallet address, and join or create token-gated, NFT-gated and paid group chats, with no phone number, email or KYC. Cherry started on Solana and also supports Base, Ethereum, BNB Smart Chain and Robinhood Chain. This page is for community owners and token teams whose holders sit on more than one chain and who are running a separate Telegram group, with a separate verify bot, for each of them.

## What multichain token gated chat does on Cherry

Cherry checks gating rules against the chain itself, for every chain it supports. As of 11 September 2026:

- Five chains: Solana, Base, Ethereum, BNB Smart Chain and Robinhood Chain.
- Token-gated chats for SPL and Token-2022 holders on Solana, for ERC-20 and NFT holders on Base and Ethereum, for BEP-20 holders on BNB Smart Chain, and for ERC-20 and NFT holders on Robinhood Chain.
- Up to five rules in one room, combined with all (every rule must pass) or any (one is enough), and at most one payment rule among them.
- DM any wallet address on a supported chain, whether or not the recipient has opened Cherry yet.
- One public page per room at `chat.cherry.fun/@<handle>` that lists the requirements before anyone joins.

## Which standards each chain brings

Each chain has its own token standards, and the rule you pick follows the standard, not the chain name.

The table reflects the standards Cherry gates on as of 10 September 2026. On BNB Smart Chain that means BEP-20 balances, so no NFT rule appears in that row.

Two rule types are Solana-specific and worth knowing about before you plan a room. The domain rule checks that a wallet owns a name under a given TLD: `.sol` and `.sns` come from the same registry, `.skr` is the Seeker domain and is verified once because it is soulbound, and any AllDomains TLD such as `.bonk` works the same way. The Metaplex Core rule checks a Core collection by its address or by a shared update authority, while the NFT rule takes collection addresses only.

## How one room spans several chains

A room carries up to five rules and each rule names its own token or collection, so one list can cover assets on more than one chain. The combination setting decides what that list means. In the editor, once two or more requirements are switched on, the line "To join, members need" appears with two choices: "All of these" and "Any one".

That gives you three shapes worth copying:

1. **One asset, two chains.** A token-balance rule for the Solana mint and a token-balance rule for the contract on Base, combined with "Any one". Holders of either version of your token get into the same room.
2. **Holder plus collector.** A token-balance rule and an NFT-ownership rule under "Any one", so the people who bought the token and the people who minted the NFT share one chat instead of two.
3. **A tier.** A token-balance rule and a payment rule under "All of these": holders pay for the inner room, and nobody who is not a holder can pay their way in.

Access keeps being checked after the join. Cherry re-checks each member's holdings in the background, evaluating every rule on the room each time, so a wallet that sells loses access. That re-check is not instant, and a seller can keep access for several days after the sale. Once caught, the wallet is paywalled: it stays in the group and message content is withheld until it passes again. If Cherry cannot read a chain at that moment, nobody is paywalled, so an outage on one chain never locks your members out. A lapsed subscription is paywalled the same way until the member renews. Invited members skip the holdings checks, because an invite is a vouch; a payment rule still applies, and an owner or admin invite comps it as a lifetime guest pass. Before joining, a visitor sees which requirements they already meet on the room's public page.

## What is different from a single-chain app

In the apps built around one chain, the chain is the container, not a field on a rule, which is why a second chain means a second room or a second app.

Towns describes itself as "an open messaging protocol built on Base". As of 10 September 2026, Towns says every Town is minted on Base, every membership is an NFT, and its in-chat trading covers Base and Solana tokens. The group itself stays a Base object. As of the same date, dm.fun is Solana-only, opens a chat room for every Solana token contract address, and signs users in with Privy embedded wallets, not the wallet they already hold. Zash describes a token-powered social network with encrypted chats restricted to token holders or NFT owners, and names Solana, Ethereum, Base and BNB Chain among the chains its SDK covers; it does not say how ownership is checked or who checks it.

The practical difference for an owner is the member list. When the room is a chat with a rule list, moving a community from one chain to two is an edit to that list. When the room is an on-chain artifact, it belongs to the chain it was minted on.

## Who uses it and for what

**A token team after a bridge.** The treasury has holders of the original mint and holders of the bridged contract, and both groups think they are the community. Two token-balance rules under "Any one" put them in one room, and the announcement channel reaches both without anyone re-verifying.

**An NFT collection with a second drop on another chain.** The original ERC-721 set and the newer collection are different assets with overlapping owners. An NFT rule for each under "Any one" keeps one holders' room, and a paid channel next to it sells the deeper feed. **Communities gated by a domain name.** Domain-gated rooms on Cherry already run at size. SNS Club, gated by a `.sol` domain, is re-checked in the background; Seeker Club's `.skr` gate is soulbound, so it is verified once. Seeker Club had 8,637 members and 58,198 messages as of 11 September 2026, and SNS Club had 1,455 members on the same date.

## Limits and honest caveats

- Group chats are not end-to-end encrypted, by design, so moderation and bots can work on the message stream. DMs are end-to-end encrypted, with keys derived from your wallet.
- Money moves on Solana rails. Entry fees are charged in SOL, recurring memberships are billed in USDC, and the cold-DM fee was 0.01 SOL as of 10 September 2026, whatever chain your holdings rules point at.
- The domain rule and the Metaplex Core rule are Solana-only, as the table above says. An Ethereum name is not a substitute for a `.sol` name in a domain rule.
- Semi-fungible passes are the case to check first: if your membership token is an ERC-1155 rather than an ERC-721, confirm the rule saves in the editor before you announce the room.
- A paid room has to be public, because its public page is where it sells. An asset-gated room can be private, and then its rules pause until it goes public again.
- In-chat swaps, the OTC escrow in the mobile app and the Trading Terminal mini app are Solana features. A room gated by a Base token is a chat room with Base entry rules, not a Base trading desk.

## How to start

1. Open [chat.cherry.fun](https://chat.cherry.fun) and sign in with your wallet.
2. Press the new-chat control and choose "Create group". Name it and leave it public so it gets a shareable page.
3. Open "Access requirements" and switch on the rules you need: "Token requirement" for a fungible balance, "Hold an NFT from a collection" for a collection, the domain rule for a `.sol`, `.sns`, `.skr` or other AllDomains name.
4. Paste the token or collection address for each rule, and the minimum for each balance rule (up to five rules).
5. With two or more rules on, pick the combination under "To join, members need": "All of these" or "Any one".
6. Claim a handle, write the description and the benefits, and share the room page at `chat.cherry.fun/@<yourhandle>`. Visitors see the requirements and which ones they pass before they join.

**Can I DM any wallet address on any chain?** You can DM an address on any chain Cherry supports, and the recipient does not need a Cherry account first: the conversation waits for them. A first message from a stranger lands in their Requests folder without a push notification unless the sender pays the cold-DM fee, which was 0.01 SOL as of 10 September 2026. **Do I need a verify bot for each chain?** No. Cherry reads the chain itself when a wallet asks to join and again in the background, so there is no third-party bot to install per chain and no verification site for members to visit. **What currency do members pay in if the room is paid?** Paid entry is charged in SOL and recurring memberships are billed in USDC on Solana, whatever chain the holdings rules point at. As of 10 September 2026 the split is 70% to the group owner and 30% to Cherry.

**What happens when a member sells the token on one chain?** Cherry re-checks each member's holdings in the background against every rule on the room, so a wallet that sells loses access. The re-check is not instant: a seller can keep reading for several days after the sale. Once paywalled, the wallet stays in the group while message content is withheld, until it passes again. Under "Any one", passing a second rule is enough to keep access.
