Whop alternative for crypto communities: 7 options
Seven Whop alternatives for crypto paid communities, compared on published fees, payout rails, wallet-verified membership, and recurring billing.
If you sell access to an alpha group, a holder room, or a research channel, and your buyers pay in USDC from a wallet, you are looking for a Whop alternative for crypto that bills without a card processor. This page lists seven options, what each one charges, and where the money and the membership sit. Cherry (cherry.fun) is one of them: a wallet-to-wallet messenger and community app where you sign in with a wallet, DM any wallet address, and join or create token-gated, NFT-gated, and paid group chats, with no phone number, email, or KYC.
How we picked
Five questions decide this list, and they are the ones a community owner asks after the first month of running a paid room.
- Can a buyer pay from a wallet, or does the checkout need a card?
- Is membership attached to the wallet, or to an account the vendor issues?
- Is recurring billing native, or does renewal mean chasing people?
- Does the conversation live in the same product as the payment?
- What does the service take from each payment?
Fees below are as of 11 September 2026 unless another date is given.
Whop
Whop is a marketplace and checkout for selling digital products and community access, and gating a Discord or Telegram group behind a paid membership is a common use. Its home page states “$4.6B+ paid to businesses on Whop” as of 11 September 2026.
Its pricing page lists 2.7% + $0.30 per successful domestic card transaction, +1.5% for international cards, and +1% for currency conversion. Payouts are priced separately: $2.50 for next-day ACH, 4% + $1.00 for an instant bank deposit, 5% + $1.00 for crypto, and $23.00 for a bank wire. Disputes cost $15.00 each. Under local payment methods the same page prices crypto at 1.5% per transaction.
Crypto is a payment method there; the account is still the identity. Whop’s Business FAQ, last updated in December 2022, says Coinbase Commerce handles one-time crypto payments, with a buyer who has no Coinbase account paying manually in Bitcoin, Ethereum, USDC, Litecoin or Dai and those one-time payments settling instantly into a dollar balance the seller withdraws, and that subscription renewals pull wEth from an allowance in the buyer’s wallet.
Fit: you want card checkout, an affiliate program, and a marketplace that sends you buyers, and you are happy for membership to mean a Whop account.
Patreon
Patreon is where fiat memberships usually live outside crypto, and “patreon alternative for crypto” is usually typed by someone who wants the same recurring tiers without a card on file. Patreon’s pricing page states a fee of “10% of the income you earn on Patreon”, plus payment processing, currency conversion, payout fees, and applicable taxes.
Membership is an email account with a card behind it. No rule there can express “holds 1M of the token” or “owns a Seeker”, so a holder room has to be maintained by hand. Patreon’s pricing page says it handles chargebacks, disputes, and fraud itself, so a reversal hits Patreon rather than the creator.
Fit: a newsletter or podcast audience that pays with cards and does not hold tokens.
Skool
Skool bundles a community feed, courses, and a calendar in one subscription. Its pricing page lists “$9/month” for Hobby with a “10% transaction fee”, and “$99/month” for Pro with a “2.9% transaction fee”, both with unlimited members and courses.
For a crypto group the gap is the same as Patreon’s: the member is an account, the payment is a card, and nothing reads the chain. At volume the Pro tier is the cheaper of Skool’s two plans, though its 2.9% still sits above Whop’s card rate.
Fit: a paid course or coaching group where trading is the subject matter and not the membership test.
Telegram paid subscriptions
Most crypto communities already sit in Telegram, so charging inside it saves a migration. Telegram’s API documentation says bots and channels “may create subscriptions, periodically charging users a certain amount of Telegram Stars”, that Stars are “virtual items that allow users to purchase digital goods and services from bots and mini apps”, and that channel owners receive 100% of the Stars sent as star reactions, withdrawn through Fragment.
What you do not get is a wallet check. A subscriber is a phone number, and holder-only access has to be bolted on with a separate bot. The wider trade-off is covered in move a community off Telegram .
Fit: an audience already on Telegram paying small amounts, with moderation you are willing to do manually.
Discord with a gating bot
This is a stack many NFT and token communities still run: Discord for the chat, a gating bot for holder roles, and a separate checkout for the money. Collab.Land published Verified Member pricing on 11 November 2025: Starter free for 25 verified members, Basic $17.99 for 100, Premium $35 for 1,000, Exclusive $149 for 2,500, Elite $449 for 7,500, Enterprise on request. The same post says “All plans, including Starter, now receive 24-hour balance checks: we routinely reverify ownership and remove roles from members who no longer qualify, ensuring private spaces stay accurate and secure.”
The real cost is three bills and three dashboards, plus the verify ritual: members connect a wallet on a third-party site to get a role, and every fake verify DM in the server imitates that step. Guild.xyz and Matrica are the other two bots communities run for this, and the gating side is covered in detail in Collab.Land alternatives .
Fit: you already run a large Discord and moving it would cost more than the bots do.
Towns
Towns is an on-chain group chat app on Base where each group is minted on-chain and each membership is an NFT the member holds. Towns launched recurring memberships on 21 October 2025, USDC-priced memberships on 16 January 2026, and a 0.25% split of in-chat trades to the group owner on 13 June 2025, and in 2025 it told owners of paid groups “you earn 90%”. Towns reported 450,000+ groups and 1.7M memberships on 13 February 2026, the same membership figure it gave in August 2025.
Onboarding gives each account an embedded wallet, Towns announced its February 2026 iOS app as “new app, new account”, and the App Store listing declares a phone number linked to the user, so identity is issued by Towns and the member’s own trading wallet stays outside. Groups and memberships are minted on Base. Cherry vs Towns compares the two in full.
Fit: your community is on Base and you want membership to be a tradable NFT with a secondary market.
Cherry
Cherry charges from the wallet. Add a payment rule to a public group or a broadcast channel and the join button becomes a checkout the member signs themselves, as of 10 September 2026:
- One-time SOL entry between 0.0001 and 100 SOL, set by the owner. One transaction carries two transfer legs, 70% to the owner’s wallet and 30% to Cherry. The receipt is durable, so leaving and rejoining is free.
- One-time USDC entry, same split, often used as an anti-spam price.
- Recurring USDC between 1 and 10,000 USDC per day, week, or month, billed through the official Solana Subscriptions and Allowances program. The member authorizes the plan once and each period is pulled and split 70/30 in the same transaction.
- Turning on recurring pricing costs the owner one signed transaction with a 0.01 SOL setup fee. Changing the price creates a new plan and existing subscribers keep their terms.
- A failed pull paywalls the member: the room stays in their chat list and the content is withheld until they renew. Cancelling keeps access to the end of the paid period.
- A payment rule sits beside up to four holdings rules, and the owner chooses whether members need all of them or any one, so “20 USDC a month” and “holds the collection” can both be required. See paid communities and channels , token-gated chat , and NFT-gated chat .
Wallet-verified membership at scale looks like Seeker Club, a Cherry group that admits any wallet holding a .skr domain: 8,637 members, 58,211 messages, and 4.9 stars from 41 reviews as of 11 September 2026. It carries no price, and the same rule editor that admits it takes one.
A paid channel is the broadcast shape, where only the owner and admins post and everyone else reads. Mango Inner Circle runs that shape without a price: 1,671 members and 5 stars from 2 reviews as of 11 September 2026. Paid channels are described in channels , and pricing an alpha group is walked through in sell access to an alpha group .
Honest limits. There is no card checkout, so a buyer needs a wallet funded with SOL or USDC. A paid group must be public, because the storefront page is how people find it and pay. Group chats on Cherry are not end-to-end encrypted, by design, so moderation and bots can work; DMs are.
Fit: your members already hold wallets, you want membership tied to holdings as well as to money, and you want the owner’s share in your wallet at the moment of payment.

Which Whop alternative for crypto to pick
One question settles it: what proves that somebody belongs in the room?
- An account and a card: stay on Whop for the marketplace and the affiliate tooling, or use Skool if the content is a course.
- An email and a card, with no holder rules: Patreon.
- A phone number, small amounts, an audience that will not move: Telegram subscriptions.
- A wallet, but the chat has to stay on Discord: Discord with Collab.Land, Guild.xyz, or Matrica, and a checkout beside it.
- A wallet on Base, with membership you want to be resellable: Towns.
- A wallet, with holder rules that read Solana, Base, Ethereum, or BSC, payment signed in SOL or USDC on Solana, and the owner’s 70% landing in the owner’s wallet: Cherry.
If that last line describes your group, create it at chat.cherry.fun , add a payment rule, and price it in USDC.
FAQ
What is the best Whop alternative for crypto communities?
It depends on where your members already are. If they hold wallets and pay in USDC, Cherry charges from the wallet and splits each payment 70% to the owner and 30% to Cherry as of 10 September 2026. If your community is on Base and you want membership to be a tradable NFT, Towns fits. If you need card checkout and a marketplace, stay on Whop.
Is there a Patreon alternative for crypto?
Yes, if what you want from Patreon is recurring tiers. Cherry bills 1 to 10,000 USDC per day, week, or month through the official Solana Subscriptions and Allowances program, and Towns has priced recurring memberships in USDC since 16 January 2026. Neither asks the member for a card, and neither issues a Patreon-style public creator page.
Can Whop take crypto payments?
Yes. The buyer still holds a Whop account.
Do I need Stripe or a bank account to charge for a crypto group chat?
Not on a wallet-native app. On Cherry the member signs one transaction from their own wallet and the owner’s 70% lands in the owner’s wallet in that same transaction, so there is no merchant account, no bank payout, and no card processor in the path.
Can a paid crypto community be private?
On Cherry a paid group must be public, because its storefront page at chat.cherry.fun is where people read the rules, see the reviews, and pay. A group gated only by holdings can be private.
What happens if a member stops paying?
On Cherry a failed USDC pull paywalls the member: they keep the room in their chat list and the message content is withheld until they renew, and cancelling keeps access until the paid period ends. Card-based services handle this as a failed charge and revoke the role or account instead.
