Telegram paid channel vs Cherry: Stars or USDC

How a Telegram paid channel works (Stars, 30-day billing, a 21-day payout hold) next to a Cherry paid channel billed in USDC to the owner's own wallet.

A Telegram paid channel sells access through an invite link priced in Telegram Stars, billed every 30 days, with the owner’s Stars withdrawable through Fragment 21 days after they are earned. Cherry (cherry.fun) is a wallet-to-wallet messenger and community app for crypto, and a paid channel there charges USDC per day, week or month, or a one-time fee, with 70% of each payment going to the owner’s own wallet as of 10 September 2026. The verdict: Telegram brings the bigger audience and members who already have the app; Cherry settles in stablecoins to the owner’s wallet and can also require members to hold a token.

What a Telegram paid channel is

Telegram added Star Subscriptions on 14 August 2024, in its “Super Channels, Star Reactions and Subscriptions” announcement: creators make special invite links that let people join a channel for a monthly payment in Telegram Stars. That post gives the path as Channel Settings > Channel Type > Manage Invite Links > Create a New Link, then Require Monthly Fee. Telegram’s developer documentation adds the rules, as of October 2026: the link sells access to a private channel, the only allowed subscription period is 30 days, and Telegram’s Bot API documentation sets the price of a subscription invite link at 1 to 10,000 Stars. Bots can sell Star subscriptions too, on the same 30-day period.

Telegram’s Stars terms call Stars virtual items for buying digital goods and services inside Telegram. The same terms say members buy them through in-app purchases on iOS and Android, through @PremiumBot on the direct Android build, or in the web and desktop apps, and Fragment sells Stars top-ups as well. Every sale of Stars is final.

What Cherry is

Cherry is built by Cherry Technologies, S.A., with a web app at chat.cherry.fun, iOS and Android apps, and a listing on the Solana dApp Store for the Seeker phone. cherry.fun says you can “sign in with a wallet, or with an Apple, Google or X account”; signing in with a wallet needs no phone number, email or KYC. Groups can be public or private, gated by tokens, NFTs or domains, or paid. A channel is the broadcast shape: only owners and admins post and everyone else reads (channels on Cherry ). Put a payment rule on a channel and you have a paid channel; the full mechanics are in paid communities and channels .

How members pay

On Telegram the member pays in two steps that both happen inside Telegram: they buy Stars, then spend them through the paid link. Once the payment completes, Telegram adds them to the channel without a separate join, and renews by taking the same amount from their Star balance every 30 days. Telegram’s Stars terms add that Stars bought through a store such as Apple may also fall under that store’s terms, with the billing relationship directly with the store. A member who leaves without cancelling can rejoin during the paid period without paying again.

On Cherry the member pays from a Solana wallet. A recurring plan runs through the official Solana Subscriptions and Allowances program: the member authorizes the plan once, and Cherry pulls USDC each period with no new signature. A one-time fee, in SOL or USDC, is a single transaction, and membership activates only when it confirms on-chain, so an abandoned transaction adds nobody. Members see and manage their subscriptions in their profile, and the USDC subscriptions guide walks through both sides.

How the owner gets paid

On Telegram the money waits. Subscription Stars land on the channel’s balance, and Telegram’s content creator terms say Star balance rewards “require 21 days” before withdrawal, against 2 days for a Gram balance. Telegram processes all creator rewards through Fragment, and its developer documentation says owners can withdraw Stars as Gram. Only the owner can withdraw, the request asks for the account’s two-step verification password, and the balance must reach a minimum first. Earned Stars stay valid for 3 years and are forfeited after that if unused.

The dollar value is Telegram’s call. Its terms say the estimated value shown in the app is an approximation, and they state a rate only for paid posts (0.013 USD of rewards per Star) and for ad credit (0.02 USD per Star). For subscriptions Telegram publishes no percentage and no rate.

On Cherry the split happens inside the payment. Every one-time fee and every recurring pull is one transaction with two legs, 70% to the owner’s wallet and 30% to Cherry as of 10 September 2026. There is no balance to withdraw and no hold. Recurring USDC pricing needs one setup transaction from the owner, with a 0.01 SOL fee, and changing the price creates a new plan while existing subscribers keep their terms.

What happens when a subscriber stops paying

Telegram documents three pieces of the lapse. Near the end of a period, a subscriber whose Star balance cannot cover the renewal gets a prompt to top up. A cancelled subscription runs to the end of its period. Admins can list every member whose subscription has expired. What Telegram does not document is what happens to that member’s place in the channel.

Cherry documents it. Cancelling keeps access until the paid period ends. A failed pull, because the member cancelled or ran short of USDC, paywalls them: they stay a member, the room keeps its place in their chat list, and message content is withheld. Renewing lifts the paywall with no re-join and no lost place in the group.

Third-party Telegram bots handle lapse their own way. InviteMember says that when a subscription ends it “removes access automatically”, as of October 2026.

How a holder gate fits

Telegram’s documentation for paid links describes no wallet or token check, so a channel that should admit only holders needs a third-party bot and a wallet-connect site. A Telegram paid channel bot can also take crypto: InviteMember says its CoinPayments integration accepts “Bitcoin, Litecoin and many other cryptocurrencies”, with plans from $19 a month, as of October 2026. Telegram’s native paid links stay Stars only.

On Cherry the payment is one rule among up to five, combined with every-rule or any-rule logic, and Cherry reads the chain itself. Under every-rule logic the app checks the holding rules before it builds the payment, so nobody pays and then fails the token check. A holder who later sells is paywalled on a background re-check, and holding again restores access.

SOLANA 中文 shows the any-rule version: its gate reads “Hold a .skr domain OR Pay 1 USDC to join”, so .skr holders enter free and anyone else pays a one-time 1 USDC. It had 8,986 messages and 4.8 stars from 5 reviews in October 2026.

How reach, storefront and moderation compare

Reach is Telegram’s strength. Telegram said it had nearly one billion users in August 2024, and its FAQ says a channel can have an unlimited number of subscribers. Your buyers already have the app.

A Cherry paid group must be public, because its own page on chat.cherry.fun is the storefront: cover, rules, up to six listed benefits, member count, the gating requirements and reviews. Active members can rate the group from 1 to 5 with text, and the owner cannot review their own group. Search engines can index the page. Invites do not bypass the paywall either: an owner or admin invite is a free pass, while a regular member’s invite lands the invitee on the paywall.

For moderation, Cherry has owner, admin and moderator roles, mute, ban, pinned messages, a word blacklist and a wallet-age gate that stops brand-new wallets posting in public groups. Group chats are not end-to-end encrypted, by design, so moderation and bots can work; DMs are. Alpha Wire runs the broadcast shape on Cherry without a price, with 5,770 messages and 5 stars from 7 reviews in October 2026.

What one month at 20 USDC looks like

The price here is for arithmetic only; selling access to an alpha group covers how to set one.

On Cherry:

  1. You create a public channel at chat.cherry.fun and add a payment rule: 20 USDC, monthly.
  2. You sign one setup transaction with the 0.01 SOL fee.
  3. A member authorizes the plan once from their wallet. The first pull sends 14 USDC to your wallet and 6 USDC to Cherry (as of 10 September 2026), and they are in.
  4. A month later Cherry pulls again. If the pull fails, the member is paywalled until they renew.

On Telegram:

  1. You create a private channel and a paid invite link with a monthly price in Stars.
  2. A member buys Stars in the app and pays through the link; Telegram adds them.
  3. The Stars sit on your channel balance and become withdrawable 21 days later.
  4. You withdraw through Fragment with your two-step verification password. Telegram publishes no dollar rate for subscription Stars, so the dollar amount is set by Telegram when you withdraw.

Choose Telegram if, choose Cherry if

Choose a Telegram paid channel if your audience is already on Telegram, members are happy to pay with Stars bought through the app store, and a 30-day cycle with a delayed payout suits you. For a stablecoin price inside Telegram, a third-party bot is the route.

Choose Cherry if you want USDC by the day, week or month in your own wallet as each payment confirms, a gate that can also require holding a token, a public storefront with member reviews, and a written lapse rule: the member is paywalled and stays a member. If you are moving an existing channel, Telegram alternatives for crypto communities and Whop alternatives for crypto cover the other options, and what a paid crypto channel is defines the format. FAQ

How do paid Telegram channels work?

A channel admin creates a special invite link to a private channel and sets a monthly price in Telegram Stars. The member buys Stars, pays through the link and is added to the channel, and Telegram debits the same amount from their Star balance every 30 days, the only period Telegram allows as of October 2026. The Stars land on the channel’s balance.

How do I withdraw Telegram Stars?

Only the channel owner can withdraw, and Telegram’s terms say Star balance rewards become available for withdrawal 21 days after they accrue. Telegram processes creator rewards through Fragment, and its developer documentation says owners can withdraw Stars as Gram. The withdrawal asks for the account’s two-step verification password and a minimum balance, as of October 2026.

Can a Telegram channel charge in USDC?

Not natively. Telegram’s own paid invite links are priced in Stars only. Third-party subscription bots can take crypto into a Telegram channel: InviteMember, for one, says its CoinPayments integration accepts Bitcoin, Litecoin and other cryptocurrencies, as of October 2026. On Cherry, a paid group or channel charges USDC per day, week or month, or a one-time fee in SOL or USDC.

What happens when a subscriber stops paying?

On Cherry, a failed USDC pull paywalls the member: they stay a member, the room stays in their chat list, message content is withheld, and renewing lifts the paywall with no re-join. Cancelling keeps access to the end of the paid period. Telegram’s documentation describes automatic renewal, a top-up prompt when the Star balance runs low and a list of expired subscribers for admins, but it does not say what happens to an expired subscriber’s place in the channel.

Can a paid channel also require holding a token?

On Cherry, yes. A group or channel can combine up to five rules, such as a token balance and a payment, and require every rule or any one of them; Cherry checks holdings on-chain itself. Telegram’s documentation for paid links describes no wallet or token check, so a holder-only Telegram channel needs a third-party bot.
