# Blockscan Chat vs Cherry: messaging a wallet that answers

## What Blockscan Chat is

Blockscan Chat is a wallet-to-wallet messenger from Blockscan, the team that created the Etherscan blockchain explorer, launched in beta in January 2022 and covered by Decrypt on 25 January 2022. It has stayed close to the explorer it came from: one of the features it lists is being notified on the block explorer when your address receives a message. As of September 2026 its home page leads with "Wallet-to-Wallet Messaging Made Easy" and describes "verified messaging from wallet owner-to-owner". Its published answers set out the rest, all as of September 2026:

The home page feature list names instant chat, end-to-end encryption, multi-device login, block addresses, notifications, an NFT negotiation bot, multichain conversation and a mobile application. Group chats appear on neither page.

## What Cherry is

Cherry is a wallet-to-wallet messenger and community app built by Cherry Technologies, S.A., with a web app at chat.cherry.fun, iOS and Android apps, and a listing on the Solana dApp Store for the Seeker phone. Your wallet is the account: sign-in is Sign In With Solana, one signed message, nothing on-chain and no gas. ## What signing in to a wallet messenger signs

People search whether Blockscan Chat is safe, and the answer turns on what your wallet is asked to approve. Blockscan Chat's own answer on cost is that messages are sent and received for free because they are done off-chain, so nothing you write there is a transaction.

On Cherry, sign-in is Sign In With Solana: the wallet signs a message, nothing goes on-chain, no gas is paid, and no token allowance is granted. Sending or reading a DM never asks for a transaction either. The one payment in the DM flow is the optional notify fee, a plain transfer you approve yourself, on the message you chose to promote. An app or bot whose conversation you have never accepted cannot put a signing prompt in front of your wallet inside Cherry; the request is refused outright, because a signature prompt that arrives detached from a conversation is a phishing setup.

That leaves the risk both products share and neither can remove: the content of a message from a stranger. Links, fake support, a "claim" page. Read a cold DM the way you would read a cold DM anywhere.

## What a first message from a stranger does

This is where the two designs diverge, and it decides whether your outreach is read or ignored.

On Blockscan Chat, an incoming message shows up in the app and as a notice on the block explorer for the address that received it. Blockscan Chat gives the recipient two controls: blocking individual users you do not wish to receive messages from, and an anti-spam setting that lets only wallets that have sent at least one transaction on Ethereum start new conversations with you, as of September 2026.

On Cherry, a first DM from someone you have never talked to lands in a Requests folder with no push notification. If the sender's wallet has no successful on-chain transaction behind it, the message is routed to the hidden part of Requests, still silently. Declining is silent as well, so a declined sender cannot tell a decline from an unopened app and has no reason to retry. The paid DM is the exception: pay the notify fee, 0.01 SOL by default as of September 2026, and the message is delivered with a push only after that transfer confirms on-chain. The practical difference for a trader: on Cherry you can choose to spend 0.01 SOL on the one address that matters, and that price is also what stops a spammer from doing it to ten thousand addresses.

## Why a cold wallet DM goes unanswered

Blockscan Chat says it plainly: whether you get a reply depends on whether the recipient chooses to use Blockscan Chat, and there is no guarantee. That is the honest state of every wallet inbox, Cherry included, and it comes from one fact: a wallet is not a device. Nothing about an address tells any app where its owner is.

So the question is which notification path exists. An explorer notice reaches someone who opens the explorer page for that address. A push notification reaches a phone, but only if the owner has signed in to the app on one. On Cherry, a paid DM buys a push to a wallet that has a Cherry session; to a wallet that has never signed in, it buys a message sitting at the top of Requests on the day that wallet first arrives. Neither product can reach a wallet that never installs anything, and any tool that claims otherwise is describing an on-chain memo, which is public, permanent and costs gas.

## Which chains and names each one reaches

Blockscan Chat states coverage of any EVM or SVM address as of September 2026, which puts Solana addresses inside its reach; name systems are not stated in its answers. Cherry started on Solana and supports Base, Ethereum, BNB Smart Chain and Robinhood Chain, and it accepts names as well as addresses: `.sol` and `.sns` from SNS (one registry, two spellings), `.skr` from a Solana Seeker, and any AllDomains name.

The same name that addresses a DM is what a gated room checks, so a person you reach by name is a person you can also find in a room of holders. SNS Club, gated by holding a `.sol` domain, had 1,454 members in September 2026.

## What exists beyond one-to-one DMs

Blockscan Chat is a DM product: its pages describe one-to-one conversations and an NFT negotiation bot, and say nothing about group chats. That focus is a reasonable answer to the explorer use case.

Cherry treats the DM as the entrance to a room. A group can combine up to five rules with all or any logic: a minimum token balance, an NFT from a collection, a Metaplex Core collection, a name with a given TLD, a wallet balance or trading-volume rule, the wallet app someone signed in with, or a payment. Cherry checks the chain itself when you join and re-checks members in the background, so a wallet that sells is paywalled. Entry can be a one-time fee in SOL or a recurring USDC membership from 1 USDC per period, with the owner keeping 70% as of September 2026. ## Where both tools stop

Fair limits on both sides, because a comparison that only flatters one is not worth reading.

Blockscan Chat's encryption answer carries its own exception: addresses that hold an API key and Safe multisig addresses are outside it, as of September 2026. Its own answers also cap each wallet at 50 new chat conversations while the product is in early beta release, as of September 2026. Group chats and gating are not part of the product.

On Cherry, group chats are not end-to-end encrypted, by design, so moderation and bots can work; DMs are. Messages live off-chain on Cherry's servers, as ciphertext for DMs. OTC deals with escrow are in the Cherry mobile app. And the limit that applies to both: the person you message still has to install something before a reply can come back.
