Verification: the bot that sends the link
A verify bot works in three steps. An admin writes a token or NFT rule, a member clicks a button in the server, and a site owned by the bot asks for a wallet signature before handing back a role. The signature moves no funds, and the flow is old enough that most crypto members know it by heart.
Two things go wrong with it. The first is timing. Collab.Land’s documentation in September 2026 says its background balance checks run every 7 days on the Starter plan and every 24 hours on the paid plans, that those checks “do not assign new roles, they only remove them”, and that a member who becomes eligible again “must manually verify again in the community to receive the role”. A seller can keep a holder role for most of a week on the free plan, and a buyer has to walk back through the verify site before the room sees their bags.
The second is impersonation. Cointelegraph reported on 11 December 2024, citing the security firm Scam Sniffer, that scammers were running a fake verification bot called OfficiaISafeguardBot which fed victims malicious PowerShell code that downloaded and ran crypto-stealing malware. A community trained to click a verify link and connect a wallet cannot tell the real flow from a copy of it.

When the chat app is wallet-native the job dissolves. What still wants a bot
Plenty.
